After enough time it will spawn again. It's just a sort of crutch if you aren't actually able to do enough damage against the wyrm.
It never spawned again, I didn't know I was going to have to fight a stupid garden worm at the end of my mission (because it never happened in the tutorial DE!) and the weapons I chose did not seem to be able to hurt it (They where not conventional projectile weapons). So after a considerable amount of time of neither of us being able to hurt each other I left the battle.
Your starting random weapon comes with "default mod" set which should be powerful enough to get you past the mission, but don't forget to pick one with "hit scan"(for easy aim and hit) and "default mod" set, unless your custom mods setup is more powerful (has rivens or such).
I took a Zarr in with me and that is a tough weapon to use in default mode during orowyrm. Other weapons like phage and ignis might need you to jump pretty close to the wyrm and fire to actually hit.
But to have both a primary and secondary that are difficult to hit with is some tough luck.
This, I was not aware I was even going to get a boss fight, I thought it was literally the same thing as the tutorials and the two weapons did not have the range or the ability to even hit the boss. I couldn't hurt him, he could not do enough to hurt me.
You don't *have* to use it but it appears. If you're not on steel path then when it spawns in the middle it trivializes the entire fight. Steel path has a few phases and appears when you have to knock the rings off the boss at the start and ending.
Either way the imperator has a default set of mods that turn it into a bullet hose. Mine shoots faster but it doesn't use those mods.
None of that is going to change the fight... its till going to be chase the stupid garden worm, do a quick time event to wrestle the worm, watch a boring cut scene the art got all wet over but no one else is interested in, and then a stupid shoot the glowies fight. I never said I had a skill issue with the fight... I have a I hate this and every year its getting worse issue... all I wanted ever was more warfare, not devil may god of darksiders.
And I certainly don't want it as a mandatory event at the end of my latest iteration of the bounties... almost every other time the boss fights where something you did when you wanted to specifically do the boss fight (or more likely you didn't want to do them but needed a reward from because they have been awful). Now they are served as the fecal Sunday at the end of my latest iteration of bounty quests. A fight which is 95% spectacle (read boring pointless and tedious bull crap) a 5% actually fighting (shooting the damned thing) and the shooting part the only part I really want to do is worse than shooting a bunch of normal mobs.
Whats the plan here? Cram in every horrible and bad contrivance from the past decade of console gaming with the idea we are going to go wow that's great and original. Whats the difference between a bullet sponge and 3 minutes of chase the worm with the horse, quick time event, and cutsceen except that if you cheese it with some meta build you can at least have it finished in 3 seconds and go do something that is actually partially enjoyable.
