Check their offerings and whatever you like the most, go for that syndicate first.
Standard practice most people follow is to join the 3 left side (Meridian, Arbiters, Suda) or the 3 right side (Veil, Perrin, Loka). And then trade mods/weapons with players of the opposite sides.
Others would require you to keep watch of the others to see if they aren't dropping too low.
just choose the rewars you're more immediatelly atracted to, since lorewise we have: edgelords, ex-bad guys with hero syndrome, nerds, cult of forcing others personal improvement, veganofascits, and less-capitalist-than-the-other-guys
or
Red Veil + New Loka
These are literally the most effective combinations if you would like to be in good standing with 4 syndicates.
In practice is does not matter. As nobody seems to have explained the deal to you in detail I will.
The point of the factions is that each one "specializes" in different war frames and as you rank up they can trade you mods for the frames that faction specializes in for faction points. Each faction also has several unique weapons representing it's combat style.
You can find lists online if you look up the factions, but it's typically best to choose a side (Red Veil + Loka, or Meridian + Suda) that gives you eventual access to more mods that you will actually want to use for the frames you plan to play. It's that simple. Some people do go with the factions they tend to empathize with more, but that isn't really optimum.
One thing you should know is that faction mods and weapons can be traded, so it is entirely possible to get the stuff from the factions you do not choose, such as the weapons (the most frequently traded thing) so you can use them to contribute to your overall mastery rank.
In my case I went with the less sympathetic factions (Red Veil + Loka + Perrin I believe, for some reason I have three), or at least in my opinion, because I had some friends at the time who chose the other factions, and this allowed us to trade items back and forth among ourselves over time so everyone could get access to everything. As a general rule the most noteworthy development of factions for all intents and purposes if the faction that doesn't like you will sometimes spawn enemies in a mission randomly and try and kill you, it's rarely that big a deal despite how that sounds, and it doesn't exactly happen constantly.
