Mag is generally built for range and strength with a bit of duration.
A small list of mods you should look into getting for her early on;
Stretch, Streamline, Continuity, Intensify
Additionally you can use Redirection to give yourself more shields for survivabilty, but her 3rd ability restores your own shields as well as those of squadmates.
Otherwise its up to you since you're still new to it all its best to play around and figure out what's best for your style of playing her. Dont be afraid to experiment.
buddy boy, u feel me ?
Modding can be very flexible with many warframes, opposite to weapons. I recommend experimenting with mods you have and see what suits your playstyle and how effective your warframe is in the battlefield.
This is quite simple basic build that I used early in the game;
+Shield, a lot more Ability Range, more energy, stunning melee attacks to my shield, better ability energy economy.

But now my playstyle is like this:
+Ability Strength, Range and Duration. Collect enemies in Magnetice bubble and recast with 105% chance to disarm them. Augur mods are bad for her but this is how I play.

Maintaining Mag's steep energy demands is critical to being able to get good mileage out of her. I use Equilibrium combined with a Dethcube packing Synth Deconstruct and Synth Fiber, as well as Energy Generator and a weapon that can tag as many kill assists as possible. Obviously Arcane Energize and Wellspring, and Energy Pulse if you can get those too, but those are all for more advanced progression.
Aside from stats and companions, weapon choice is important with Mag. Your bread and butter with Mag is Magnetize (tap 2), and the best weapons for magnetize are weapons with good damage and punch through. If you follow the main story quest enough to get through the New War, Nataruk is amazing with Mag, otherwise anything hard-hitting will do, but hard-hitting with good punch through is even better.
edit: Assuming you're REALLY new to the game (like not even cleared star chart kind of new), my suggestion is to focus on range, and basically do the following:
-Pop magnetize on tough targets, or anything nearby when there's a lot of enemies.
-Stay OUTSIDE your mag bubbles (because they will block shots for you, like a big barrier, but only if you're outside it).
-Use pull to drag enemies into the bubble
-Use some kind of high powered weaponry to kill the enemies inside the bubble
-Collect pickups and hope for enough energy to keep it going.
So long as you can do that, it's just a matter of making sure you're blocking firing lanes with mag bubbles, dragging enemies in, and making sure you put the bubbles ON eximus so that it sticks to them when they show up. Then, so long as your weapon damage is appropriate, you'll do fine.
Also, bonus tip: Because the bubbles pull everything into the center, shoot near the top of the bubble to have the projectiles pulled into their heads for easy headshots. Free extra damage, and good for charging up incarnon weapons.
Arrows, throwing knives and many plasma type weapons have about +10 second lifespan. With 20-30 second duration on the bubble you can fill it with projectiles and enemies are ripped apart by the projectiles when they are pulled, pushed or run into the bubble by themselves.
watch what happens as soon as he passes beyond 125% Cast Speed.
CAUTION: Not for the faint-hearted! People will rage they didnt save their Archon Shards.
