Unless you go farming for mods for hours, or spend hours searching the market you will get stomped before the end of the game. If you try to play for one hour a day, you will actually never get anywhere. This is kind of a game for dopamine addicts (like me).
aloha!
you dont need any money or friends for anything, this game can be played by yourself if you like Stealth or Shooting or just building an army of cool looking pets.
this game can be played in public and you will find a group for any activity in seconds. Coop is the name of the game, thats why your performance is important when it comes to objectives. So it is not about Damage at all, it is about Fashion and Friendship and who can run faster than the others. It is a Racing Game!
You can enjoy the game casually with no backlash, there are no seasons or anything and every piece of content is free. You can also follow a free Season Model called Nightwave or even give Reputation NPCs what they want, then you get a million goodies along your way... for free...
The Mods and Gear, the Planets and NPC Hubs, the Movement System and the Choice of Pets will overwhelm you and scare you on first glimpse. There is a lot to learn here and you will need a Wiki to understand every Nuance, but the Community is here to help too.
During your progression you will unlock more and more story quests. Each of them will grant you a Frame and Weapon Blueprints. Play that quest content in singleplayer, there is a DEEP Lore and the atmosphere in those quest is unparalleled. There was not a single removal of content over those 11 years since the Beta and this is all free.
Many people play this game casually, the first Frames and Weapons can be built with zero grind at all (1-2 hours per item if you are slow).
its easy to learn but hard to master
- For a new player, it can get pretty confusing. Highly recommend not spam-clicking through tutorial pop ups as they often relay important information.
- Warframe does a decent job highlighting what mechanics/tools/abilites are available to you, but the nuances of combat and gear optimisation are something you have to learn by yourself or through 3rd party sources.
- Absolutely can enjoy without going into no-life mode. Warframe uses a crafting system that can take as long as 3 IRL days to complete a piece of gear, so you can either wait or plan your crafting schedule ahead of time.
- PVP in Warframe is pretty niche, and you can definitely get by with less than optimal builds and gear on all gamemodes.
- Warframe's overarching storyline... exists. It can get confusing at times if you're following it via cutscenes and missions alone. There are also collectables in-game that can help shed light on the more complex/convoluted parts of the story. Still find it easier to follow than Destiny 2's one though.
- As far as I know, none of the main storyline has been removed. Minor details may have been tweaked. Having tried to return to Destiny 2 previously, I was absolutely bummed out by how much of the story/narrative was removed.
- Warframe's 'DLCs' can be summed up as a series of story quests. While most are in order, there is an alternative introduction quest called the Duviri Paradox that shoves onto you alot of mid/end gameplay elements that you will have no or little background knowledge of. Unless you're keen on clearing content quickly, you should take the Warframe path to follow the natural progression of the story.
- There have been a number of events that are no longer in the game
- These are NOT main story quests or main story lore
- These have resulted in the background stories of some side characters and bosses being more chopped up or abbreviated than otherwise. Especially a certain "Corpus" boss who I shall not name. you end up fighting him out of order following the main game, but it's still not main story.
Main story and lore:
- Go in as blind as you can to each quest. There are a few moments in the game that are worth experiencing as they happen.
- It's not "Witcher 3" levels of story, but there are something like 20 story quests that take anywhere from an hour up to 6-10 hours for the latest and longest ones.
- Much of the lore is hidden away in "scan able" items within each level that unlock codes entries for you to peruse. If you want lore, these are worth hunting down.
- Environmental storytelling is pretty good. One bit of "background spoiler" I believe will help you understand the WORLD a bit better is that the "Orokin" were a race that mastered biotech. The main factions are representations of this. The Grineer are clones, the corpus are cyborg, and the infested are old bio-weapons gone wrong. Understanding WHY that matters is part of the lore that you will enjoy discovering and is embeded into the settings and level details.
- The open worlds have a ton of NPCs and story buried in their content, but it is VERY EASY to get burned out trying to "complete" these locations. TAKE YOUR TIME. Due to faction reputation limits as a new player, you shouldn't spend long running missions or exploring these locations on any given day. If you cap your rep, take that as a hint to run something else for a while.
Gear and "grinding":
- Nearly everything in the game is time gated by crafting. This can HELP you to pace yourself. If you decide you want to craft a specific item or frame, then farm the resource or parts for it and start it crafting. Some might take a few sessions to get everything. This is fine. Don't rush too much.
- Join a new player friendly Clan ASAP. Go to "recruit chat" in game and say you're new and looking for a clan. You'll get a few invites. Join one and just wander around looking at the shops in there. Social interactions are completely optional, but the POINT of a clan is to have access to the shops (probably about 1/3 the gear in the game) and the trading hub for when you learn how that works.
Suggestions for gear to look for as a new player:
- Primary: the Hek - a shotgun that has carried new players for YEARS. a classic
- Secondary: the Atomos - chaining flamethrower. simple and effective
- Melee: Ether Reaper - as around for a "stance mod" for a scythe. Once you get one, this becomes one of the lowest level weapons with decent crit (20%) that can cause the Bleed status on heavy attack guaranteed.
- the blueprints for all of these can be bought for credits in the in-game market.
- In the clan dojo "tenno lab" shop you can buy the blueprints for several new frames. "Nezha" is the one I recommend 1st for new players. Abilities: 1 - movement speed and status "cleansing", 2 - damage multiplier for bosses and tough enemies, 3 - large bonus "health pool", 4 - decent damage AoE crowd control
Gaining experience:
- ALL GEAR items give "mastery experience" as they level. This is how you level your ACCOUNT.
- Mastery levels grant access to new gear and items as well as easier modding on new gear.
- Level every item you craft up to level 30 at some point before you sell/use it for crafting. This will give you the maximum mastery points from each. You can check the equipment tab of your profile to see your progress towards mastering each item.
Hence the quotation marks on 'DLC'. The point is to relate the content to the individual. Obviously OP only point of reference here is Destiny 2, so explaining it in those terms is easier.
EDIT: For some reason I chose to use the term DLC over OP's term expansion. Guess that would be confusing, but it's more or less the same anyway.
you said you enjoy 4 accounts on all available Platforms, but super important to tell others to stay away... but i am not here to fight, Boxxy. I respect "invested" players!
@OP This is also a Trading Game:
If you are a Big Brain Person with a huge Heart, a lot of Platinum and new Friendships wait for you on the other side of the register button. Trading is optional but can easily be one of your fav activities in the Mid and Endgame.
this summed it up rather well
