I do not and I do not claim to be an expert either but, just moving that data from one platform to another isn't all that needs to be done. Heck that is EASY part. It is the verification of the account, changing the account to be viable for the infrastructure of the platform and a whole lot of data related matters.
I just know that it isn't as easy as people claim it to be. These types of matters ARE NEVER as simple as many would like to believe. Not to mention if the amount of people who want to do the migration is big, it's going to take a while. What comes on cross platform... Well, that unfortunately isn't really in DEs hands that much. As all 3 companies have to agree,
to the rules DE would impose. To put it in simple term: Money.
As the devs have already stated that it's easy to mess up with this stuff, so if you don't want to suddenly lose your account during migration, you'd better wait till they figure things out. They ARE actively working on a cross-save feature after they released cross-platform. So be sure that it is coming, it just needs fine-tuning and testing.

With the PS5 now existing, pretty sure there are changes to both PS4 and PS5 by now which will complicate things, as it is case with all technology. That changes will be made over time. They might have solved the kinks back then but, now. There probably are more. Biggest problem is the business side of this whole arrangement.
What about porting what we have from one platform to another? Say you want to migrate from console to PC, DE could manually (or setup a program to do it automatically) inject to give what your old account had using commands (surely they do have these types of commands due to needing to test things out) and then simply nuke your old account. I agree that is sounds super complex regardless.
Biggest problem with the migration of accounts is mostly the business side. Well, I was about to say Microsoft, but, considering that they already have influence for both Xbox and Windows. It wouldn't matter as much but, what comes on Nintendo and Sony. They are DEFINITELY going to complicate things, A LOT. What comes on making another wave of account migrations.
