I'm not sure I would be satisfied to try farm one character for months. This is not Guild Wars and players would get burned out really fast if they couldn't get stuff in hours or 1-2 weeks.
you would be surprised how long people would play for a cosmetic item. then again, the past few years, people figured out a way to speed run legendary items.
If you can do that, you can find something else to do (in or out of Warframe) for 3 days.
I can't really wrap my head around the idea of having the patience for a grind, but not for something you can then set and forget while you grind (or just play) something else.

The wait time is all about catching whales by having players pay for convenience.
If the game is similar to Diablo and Sacred series then I can understand that but imagine an RPG game where maximum level is 30, you can reach it in 30-120 minutes, all abilities are maxed when you reach 30 and what is left? Not much imo. I really don't see long grind being better versus short grind time plus waiting time for a weapon or warframe. Now that Foundry is building a new warframe I can farm other warframes and ♥♥♥♥ in the mean time. I can complete quests, explore the universe. After 3 days I should have two or three new warframes as well and some weapons.
Unlike many RPG games Warframe doesn't give you skill points that you can spend on your character and slowly see your character develope into a stronger hero with faster with gun handling or movement speed or insane damage resistance. I couldn't imagine myself playing many weeks or +1 month to have access to a new weapon or warframe. The game hasn't been designed that way.
How would you change it?
The only thing I wanted changed is the crafting time of warframes. since their was already a gate beforehand with the farming of materials. but since its also used as an economy sink. that reason alone is good enough to keep it.
Also these timewalls also serve to prevent players from losing their sanity too soon.
