1.yes
2.yes it works with helios and the new hammer (forgot the name)... BUT dosent yield points
3.you'll only find a target when you have a target^^ but not in every mission and they give much more points... around 3k
3. After the New Strange Quest you can go see simaris once a day and he will give you a number of target to synthetize. After that you need to go to any mission that may have the normal unit that you are hunting and one target should spawn (if you have your simaris scanner equipped)
in addition to the OP: if you want to get your daily rep-limit with simaris filled up fast, buy those 3 widgets for the scanner (at the sanctuary shop) and sneak (invisible or otherwise skilled) through a mission (spy is always good for that) and just scan every enemy while they are unaware of you. all your scanner charges will regenerate (no more buying the stuff), you can get double the points worth out of scans every so often and the third widget let you scan quite fast too. equipt with that, you can get your daily limit in one mission - especially in those higher level sorties (i love doing it in extermination mission under eximus condition...).
EDIT: i just remembered, that helios won't scan anything as soon as the codex entry is completed - so even if it would use the synthesis scanner, i won't be a usefull tool to get standing with simaris.
- Go to a relay (eg larunda on mercury)
- go to simaris room (if you don't know where it is : escape menu > fast travel > simaris)
- behind simaris (the big orange floating stuff) there are two consoles : the consoles on the right sells simaris stuff (like synthesis scanner)
