Do you raise a weapons level faster by using it.
I've noticed that weapons will go up in level even if they are not used, pistol for instance will go up a level when i kill somehting with my rifle.

So i've gathered that the all seem to go up. But does the weapon you are using to get kill get a bit more? So if you want to raise your newest weapon, do you benefit from using it the most you can?

Short answer, yes. If you opt to use your melee all the time during a mission, it will gain more affinity (exp) than your 2 other weapon.
Long answer, gotta consult to wikia for this.

As a general rule, a bit. Thanks :)

Also, equipping just the weapon you want to level up also greatly boost xp gain.

The weapon used will gain the lions share of the xp, however Xp will be shared over all weapons and the frame. If you want to level something super fast, remove all the other weapons, remove the weapon from your sentinel, run a high level mission (no survival, defense or mobil defense) make sure you have a hush or silence mod equipped. You will gain a stealth bonus and you can level a weapon to 30 in a few runs, depending on the duration you can maintain the bonus.

Most XP you get on a weapon that's not used is from other players kills. If you play solo only the weapons you use will get the XP. 50% of a kill goes to weapon and 50% goes to warframe. Kills by other players are spread evenly between everything (25% per item if you have full loadout).

Is this true? If so, it makes a lot of sense. My friend started leveling up extremely fast but my pistols were going up horribly slow, I never used them but my friend never used their bow and it still leveled up faster than my pistols. Does that 25% also count towards the player who gets the kill? Because I usually have 70% of the kills nd my pistols still took forever to level up yet my bow, sword and frame all leveled up waaaayyyy before my pistols.

We're slowly moving towards an accurate explanation of how affinity is distributed. Kawalorn's mostly right, but it's a little bit weirder than that. Affinity gained from mission objectives or ally kills has 25% go to your warframe, and the other 75% be divided evenly among your weapons. With the normal full loadout this means everything gets the same affinity. But if you're going with other people and REALLY want to level one weapon, having no other weapons equipped means it gets a whopping 75% of the affinity generated by allies or mission objectives.

To the previous poster's question, like Kawa said, affinity you generate yourself with weapon kills goes 50% to the killing weapon and 50% to your warframe. If killing an enemy generates 100 affinity, everyone in range gets that much, but how it is divided for each player is based on the stated ratios.

:squirtooh:Holy balls, no wonder the weapons I use level up so quickly. I did not know this, I knew Affinity was shared, but not to that extent. :V I've pretty much been leveling up my friend for them. Does this count towards the Archwing as well outside of Archwing missions? Multiple times it's told me my Archwing part have hit new levels while playing a standard mission. I even had the Archwing show up at the end of a level instead of my normal loadout on a standard non-Archwing mission multple times. Br is this just a bug? Because God knows, this game is full of some weird ass ones.

Archwings would not normally be included, no, but I think since missions on Uranus have submersible segments (which use archwing equipment), it's possible that they might get caught up somehow. Though I never seem to get any actual affinity for them when I don't ever ENTER the submersible segments, so... It's probably just warframe having weird bugs.

The way I remember it if you kill with your frame abilities 100% of the exp goes to your frame, if you kill with weapons 50% to the weapon that got that kill and 50% goes to your frame. If someone near you kills a mob 50% of the exp goes to your frame and 50% gets split between your weapons(thus the less weapons you have equipped the more exp each individual weapon gets). Companions and their weapons work the same way frames and their weapons do, but with one difference: you're able to remove your companion's weapon so that 100% of the exp from kills by other players goes to the companion itself.

Why do you state such untruth when it was said right a couple times before:
Affinity from other player kills are distributed 25% to your frame and in total 75% evenly to your carried weapons.

So a rule of thumb:
If you want to level your frame as fast as possible - kill the enemies yourself with your frames abilities. If you want to level ONE weapon, only equip this one and let other players doing the killing (use a buff or healing frame). If you want to level Frame and/or a bunch of weapons evenly equip them all and let other people doing the killing.

In most cases it makes no sense to force level the frame or a single weapon, since you can't use the leveld stuff to 'pull' your own equipment afterwards.

Very good info here, i played this game for so long and i never knew for 100% how affinity distribution worked (was also to lazy to research it) This should be a sticky!

Oh wow. Glad I asked. Lots of good info.

Yeah, I've had it happen on all planets randomly, even before I unlocked the Archwing on this character when I started over, I guess it's just a really weird bug. My Archwing itself was a level 2 when I actually unlocked it.

Tuppence hint: run a defence like Helene (Saturn), because the defence area is so small that the other 3 players will almost always be within range for you to leech Affinity off them.
