As you try different weapons you will get access to better ones that you will want to invest in properly.
Mastery should never be the driving force behind what weapons you have. You should find a loadout that you like and keep it for as long as you like. Any free slots beyond that can be used to hold what we term as 'mastery fodder' that you sell once they are 30 because you don't enjoy using them.
The higher your mastery rank, the more points you start out with when using new weapons. Rank 10 means even an I ranked weapon automatically gets 10 points to put towards mods. I’m at mastery rank 16 and can always install a maxed out damage boosting mod on every new weapon

You sell for credits, once it hits rank 30, so it doesnt take up space?

If you didn't enjoy using the weapon then yes.
its best to do some reseach on what weapons to keep as there may be a few suprises when it comes to what weapons are actually good, i recommend u start farming relics in groups as fast as you can so you can sell the prime parts for platinum, that way you will be able to afford the weapon/warframe slots, https://warframe.market/ is far better than the trade chat for this and make sure you dont go to warframe-market. I would save your forma as you dont even really need it to complete the star chart, and instead just focus on getting to mr 16 so you can use everything. best way to do that is to just buy everything at your mr and craft as many as u can, while they are crafting u can farm some plat so u can buy a 3 day affinity booster and level them all up in rapid succesion. in between that i highly recommend just running though your quests as they unlock some important features. if u need some more help my In Game Name is MoistCaramel. feel free to inv if u catch me online
Some weapons you might keep, and continue to upgrade beyond base rank 30 stats by installing an orikin catalyst to increase capacity, forma to tune slot polarities to increase efficiency, syndicate/nightmare/rare mods, lenses, etc.

Some weapons you might want to keep because they can be used as ingredients to craft more powerful weapons. The simplest variant is the AK for secondaries (aklex, akbronco, etc) where you craft a second copy of the weapon and can adapt it for dual wielding. There are other variations - you can find out if a weapon can be used as a crafting component by searching for it and seeing if other weapon blueprints turn up.

Some weapons you might want to keep because they have a specific use. If you come across a powerful secondary for instance it might be worth investing in it to carry you on occasions when you are leveling underpowered primary weapons. It's always handy to have some silent or aoe weapons in your arsenal., etc.
From a pure mastery XP perspective, yes.

From a just having fun perspective, use whatever you enjoy.

Higher MR doesn't expressly make you a better player and save from MR locks on some gear there really isn't much point to it. Focus on fun and keep MR at a comfortable level, in that order and you should be fine.

Just to clarify, mods are universal so that mean your focus is upgrade the basic damage mods like serration and split chamber, so you can use those mods in the new weapons you craft, if you keep crafting weapon/frames/companions in a normal way you only need to take the next test when you feel you are ready to do it, don't worry if you reach max master, your mastery exp won't be lost even if you max it out.

Remember high master unlock more and better weapon to use, also increase the mod capacity and standing limit.

How do you farm for relics?
Relics drop from various missions (spy, defense, survival, excavation, bounties, etc), buy them with syndicate standing or acquire them a few other ways. You'll eventually end up with a bunch of them. There's a console up the back of your craft that looks like a floating cabbage that (if you have it unlocked yet) lets you view and refine your relics. (Refined relics drop rare items more often.)

If you have void missions unlocked they appear under navigation as a mission type icon on the top right. Choose a mission, choose a relic, and try to complete it and get enough "void traces" to unlock it. If successful you get to choose whatever drops from all the relics equipped by players during the mission. You'll get forma and prime parts - complete the set and you can build a prime item, or sell rare parts/sets to other players.

The game introduces you to all of this at some point, but for newer players you'll struggle to get a lot of relics or complete the more difficult void mission types. I wouldn't worry about it too early - just dabble a bit when it becomes available. Eventually you'll gravitate into relic farming when you better know how it works and it makes sense to do so.
