Tetra isn't that great at all. Status Chance is okay but it only deals Impact and Puncture which means it's really bad against Flesh type Health (Red health bar). You have to mod it with maxed mods before it starts working okay imo. Don't spend too much effort and time on it. There are better primary weapons.
There is Tenet Tetra with higher stats on everything and Alt-fire which consumes full magazine to fire a grenade which explodes on Impact. Unfortunately you must complete The War Within and Call of the Tempestarii quests for chance to get that gun.
Also don't spend plat on weapons, buy their blueprints
If you are already at that point: just grab the Tenet Tetra now and try that.
You could also try getting a riven mod for it, its disposition is actually really high since no one really uses it. But keep in mind, even Rivens can’t save some weapons. And honestly Tetra is not something I’d use since it’s bad for both crit and status.
Can you get more damage with another weapon with your same loadout? Sure it's possible.
But since you don't seem to have much experience with the game I can assure you that you could draw out much more damage by building it differently or using it with another loadout than simply switching to a different weapon.
First thing I'd recommend is to decide how you're gonna deal more damage.
With critical hits? Status buildup? Status galvanized mods?
Looking at its stats it doesn't have a high critical chance or damage to really improve it, but it does have a somewhat high status chance, though no slash damage so I'd go for a Galvanized Aptitude build with lots of status enhancing ele mods and multishot mods.
It also has an exclusive exilus mod called Focused Acceleration which is an improvement of the normal Terminal Velocity.
Then put every forma you have into it and max out its mod slots and mod ranks.
Buy an arcane enhancement and an exilus slot.
I'd use a Primary Merciless as the reload speed will be useful and you won't get headshots anyway I'd assume.
You probably can't put an arcane (since you need steel path) but you can buy Aptitude from the market (you can't farm it because you need all the base nodes) and you could farm requiem relics from the market to get an exilus slot.
Also you said your build is good for Tetra but you haven't said anything about it.
What WF are you using? What melee/companion? Why is it good?
And it's called rank not level btw.
Good luck
People who say this are either meta slaves, don't know how to mod, or both.
Any weapon can be viable if you know how to mod, obviously some weapons will do less damage than others but that doesn't mean they're useless.
What about Hind? Base Latron? Any type of Viper?
Sorry pal, some weapons are bad no matter what.
And for OP, I suggest you keep ranking the mastery and pick a "meta weapon" as a goal first, and then go back for the weapon that your really like.
(when you establish a stable/high-end warframe build, weapon could be choose as extra style point)
(also don't buy any weapon/warframe from the store, they don't worth the asking plat)
There are plenty of feasible weapons of most types. I remember the Tetra being horribad. At MR 6 and 7 you can get normal versions of the Soma and the Baza respectively. I know they're both able to handle the normal star chart fairly handily.
Braton
Lato
Skana
Can easily clear the Starchart. No primed/galvanized mods needed.
You will have to spend potatoes and formas.
