Railjack Function Questions
So, a couple of questions about the Railjack's functionality.

1. How do I get my ordnance missiles to lock on from the side turrets? I'm Gunnery Rank 5, so I have the Rank 1 lock-on ability, but they just won't lock on.

2. Are the Grineer Crew Ships completely invincible from the outside? I shot one with the Dome Cannon (the Rank 5 Gunnery cannon), but it didn't even budge the health bar, and it did (I'm not making this number up) over 1 million red damage.

3. If the answer to #2 is "Yes.", then what good is the Dome Cannon? If you can't kill objectives with it other than fighters, which are easy enough to kill with a regular gun, anyway, what good is it? It just feels like a waste to use it if you can't instagib or heavily damage objectives with it.

I may come up with more later.

Now, this is my best guess, and Empyrian just came out so a lot of edges still need to be smoothed over:
I think that, with the heavy co-op nature of Railjack, the crewships are indeed nigh-invincible. I did take a couple down with my RJ, but it took some insane amount of time and missiles. Also, I noticed that you can attack them safely if you stick behind them, as their guns have a limited arc and a blindspot on their 6 'o clock.
The dev intended method to deal with crewships seems to be for a player to enter the crewships and blow up the reactor. This is possible to do solo, but you need to "over level" your RJ compared to the mission to make it feasible without absurd amounts of luck.

Actually, I might have made a small mistake in my original post. While I did reduce them to no health with the guns, I later entered them and blew them up from the inside.
I'm sure there's a way to permanently disable them, even from outside, even if you have to personally blow up their rector. I'm still experimenting.
Also, this might just be something locked behind a intrinsic shaped lock. Maybe at gunnery 7 you'll get "can destroy large ships".

1. You have to aim your cross hair at the enemy ship and keep it steady on target. You'll see four arrows outside of the target box begin to lock on until it makes a complete stop which then lets you know that you can fire the missile. Problem with this though is that its hard to see. DE may need to add a small icon or text on the HUD to inform you that your lock on.

2. Kind of hard to say. I mean I thought so at first besides the fact you have to fly in and destroy the reactor but recently, I had one guy use the dome cannon and actually destroy the crewship with one shot.

3. So far I have not come across any upgrades for the dome cannon. Just only turrets, missiles and the three components to your ship (engine, shield and reactor). The only thing I would hope for is another hotfix to come in soon to make adjustment with Railjack again.

lowering the hp of a crewship only disables it, hope this gets changed later on but I'm fine with boarding ships and yeeting the reactor

In my experience i destroyed the Crewships with only one shot of the Artillery... so not sure.
Maybe because i haven't left Earth yet (solo saturn does not appeal to me, waiting for my friend).

If it's something locked behind Intrinsic, it's not shown, so it'd probably be a hidden thing if it is.

Thank you, very much! I was wondering how to lock on. I'll keep an eye on that.
Like I said, I used the Dome Cannon and hit a Crew Ship and did over 1 mil red damage, but maybe it has infinite punch-through and I just missed the reactor. I'll have to try it again later while aiming better.

I have absolutely no problem with boarding the ship and doing it the good old fashioned way, but having an alternative open to people who invest in the Gunnery department would be nice, as well.

Saturn is a little different from what I've seen, so it may not work the same way.

The Dome Cannon should TOTALLY be able to bust down a crewship.

Honestly, I think it's just buggy or desynced like a lot of the railjack stuff seems to be. XD I literally had one of the gunner turrets jam up at the bottom of the ramp before, meaning it was no longer usable.

They'll fix it eventually, I'm sure.

Congrats!
The thing is that even when hitting it with the artillery gun, the crewship still takes a good 20 seconds of "going critical" before it actually dies. Dome Cannon should be able to oneshot the crewships, they just won't blow up immediately.

To be completely honest, if you're at Gunnery 5 you already have a far better crewship murder machine: Yourself.
  1. Find crewship.
  2. Tell someone in your party, preferably with an @name, "Hey ♥♥♥♥♥, take the helm and fly me closer so I can hit it with my sword!"
  3. Get in the slingshot, aim, and fire.
  4. Once you crash through their hull and teach them what it feels like to get a ramsled to the kidney, run up to the reactor and hit it with your sword, repeatedly.
  5. Once the reactor commits not function, perform an emote, place a glyph, and take a selfie.
  6. Leave ship by preferred means.
  7. ???
  8. Grofit!
Entire process generally takes 20 seconds and doesn't cost resources.

We've been talking on and off on how to do this stuff solo. I prefer cheesing it by taking the RJ as far from the battle as possible. They can't hit you if they don't see you're there.

So, you can indeed destroy crewships with a single artillery shot. My guess it's that they have infinite puncture and so, if you aim it right, you can strike the reactor and blow it up in one shot. Suddenly RJ mission have become possible solo, you just need to be the crew for some time to get the intrinsics to power yourself up enough.

But does this still work on the shielded reactors is the big question.
