On a more serious note though - the more I think of "how do I win Warframe?" it just boils down to : I will have "won"/"completed" Warframe once they have stopped developing new content, and have acquired every weapon/frame/sentry/etc. that had appealed to me, the slots to house everything without needing to sell, and all missions have been completed (exception being missed alerts/one-timers).
I will have "won", when I am at a point, that I could effectively sell off a number of things, and then let a family member or someone I trust play on my account re-collecting the things (effectively letting them skip the worst grinds). Money cannot exactly do this for me as of now (can't pay $10 to skip New War for example), and new stuff is coming out still, so still a long way to go as far as I am concerned.
Only to bad players who dont bother to learn how to play efficiently. For rest, its completely free2play.
You can get over 100p / h by doing fissures and selling drops. Do radshares with a resource booster and you get a lot more. You also get duplicates you can sell while farming for other things(essentially free plat, no farming required). Two weapon slots cost 12p, one frame slot is 20p. In other words if you bother to trade, at all, you are not limited by slots.
Correction, its pay to get bored faster. Nothing to win in this game.
1) You'll rob yourself of activities. Grinding is THE game in Warframe, and if you swipe your credit card at everything - there won't really be anything for you to do.
2) The power floor needed to clear content in the game is really, really low. Realistically speaking, you need one good weapon, one good warframe, and bunch of non-primed mods for them - and you're golden to clear most content in the game. Throw 2-3 more warframes for more specialist roles. Everything above that is pure excess. You don't need primed mods, arcanes, umbral formas or full arsenal for anything other than the sake of it.
So yes, you can pay2win in Warframe. But there's so little to win, and arguably so much to lose, that I'd highly adwise against it.
and i'll bring you to mid level survival, Hydron. Can you kill the enemy faster than my non-killer frame? let say, my defensive Vauban. NO
Why? because you need more than just "have the best weapon/frame" in Warframe. You need to level it up, mod it properly and know how to use them properly.
Leveling is easy, collect all mod you need take time farming or trading. know how to use them takes even longer.
tl;dr : You can buy almost everything with IRL money, but that won't make you instantly strong let alone "win".
2 Years ago, i was playing Warframe daily, and finally managed to get my Mate to join me in the Game. He got hooked on it and for quite some Time we played together daily.
Now in the Picture comes a Friend of his. He is, what tends to be referred to as "Whale" in these Scenarios of Mtx etc.
From here on i will refer to my Friend as "Jon", and his Friend, the Credit Card Gamer as "Tim" to make it easier to read!
Tim has a lot of disposable Income, and is the perfect Target for Microtransactions. He indulges in all kinds of grind skipping, in every Game he plays.
So Tim went ahead and joined us in Warframe. It took less than 2 Days, and the Spending began. At this Point, Jon basically went Balls Deep on the Grind, and in a miniscule amount of Days, farmed a good Build, Nukeframe and all. He was solo melting no Issue.
Tim saw that, and wanted to be on our Level, so queue the Credit Card and copious Amounts of spent Plat later, he was running the "same" Loadout as Jon did, Warframe, Weapons at all.
Now, HERE's the Kicker: Obviously, while grinding, Jon managed to build up Mods, Resources and what else you need, to make a Build good. Tim on the other Hand with the Credit Card didnt do that, and the Result was Jon still nuking everything, and Tim leaving Missions with no more than 20 Kills, and dying many Times.
He was furious that all that Money spent didnt give him the same Power Jon had, and quit the Game shortly after.
Looking back at it, the Story is so good, it sounds made up, but i can assure you, even if you dont believe me this Case, it will most definetly have happened to other People anyway.
This game you can grind out anything you want that can differ from not taking long or taking days. If it was truly "P2W", you wouldn't have this option. You can choose to take a shortcut and buy items but even if you do, you still need the materials to craft them which you cannot buy compared to grinding the pieces.
Does it have the best weapons, frames, mods, and arcanes purchasable for real money? Yes.
Does this allow people to skip HUNDREDS of hours of grinding? Yes.
This makes it Pay To Win.
Does it matter? Not whatsoever.
The reality is, most games with a Pay To Win as powerful as this one tend to be wholly PVP focused, so different groups keep paying to have the advantage. Warframe is PVE focused, so you having better stuff that other people matters alot less (if at all). So let other people Pay To Win, it lets most people play for free and the company keep its lights on. It really doesnt have any effect on you at all.
I see it as p2w as well BUT here it comes down to "Is it a bad thing?" If somebody used +1000€ it only benefits the entire team if that player is playing in Public matchmaking. I won't touch f2p games that focus on PvP. I have had only bad experience in those games.
