Yeah, not happening. Only MR8 limitation means it's supposed to be a 7/10 at best, and it'll get Primed one day eventualy so no reason to buff that which will be Improved upon anyway.
They don't plan things that carefully, there's no clear design philosophy which states MR limitations co-vary with effectiveness.
Signature weapons at MR 8-9 include the Cedo, Epitaph and Phantasma among others, some of the best weapons going apart from currently popular AoE cheat codes.
(To say nothing of cheat codes like Saryn and Mesa Prime, MR0 and 2, respectively, although that actually *has* a rationale.)
Meanwhile Magnus Prime sits at MR 14.
Like Gyre, Alternox won't get primed for years to come. Even in the absence of any MR logic, there's no reason for it to be as subpar as it is.
And i din't find Alternox particularly ultra bad either. High Status chance build seemed to work relatively alright on primary fire, from little testing i did. I don't expect it to own Steel Path enemies any time soon, but should be working fine in sortie 3.
We've had SP for a long time now and for better or worse that's the yardstick since starchart has been utterly trivialized.
In one sense I'm cool with a weapon not being part of the power creep but a signature weapon should at least be able to compete IMO.
If you haven't already you can check out Aznvasion for a breakdown on why it's underwhelming, he explains it better than I can in a forum comment.
Not saying you have to agree with him but many of us do.
