What weapons after boltor / hek?
Hey. I've read so much stuff about hek being awesome (and it is, I tested it. Don't even have all the good mods and it's already one shotting most stufff), that by now I wonder if there's anything better?

I know, I should test it myself - but it's harder for me as I don't have simulacrum opened yet and I only have the hek with cata. I'm not going to waste cata on a weapon I might not like.

What weapons should I go for? I'm almost MR 8.

Or to put the question differently - is it safe to assume that higher MR weapon requires, the better is generally is?

There are some cool weapons at higher MR, that's why they're up there in the first place. But there is a lot of filler, and there are good weapons at lower MR (the Vectis comes to mind, it's at MR2)

Some of my favourites up to MR8 were the Vectis, Torid, Snipetron Vandal, Grinlok, Tigris, Veldt - Sonicor, Atomos, Detron, Akjagara - Galatine, Volnus, Twin Krokhur, Destreza, Dual Keres, Hirudo (very big fav)

As a general rule, a higher MR weapon is stronger than 20% of the weapons in the MR rank before it. Not done with any math or anything.

There are variants of weapons that generally are direct upgrades over their predecessors, for example the Vaykor Hek is superior in every way of the Hek even if the latter has a Scattered Justice equipped.

You want to look out for weapons with prefixes on their name, such as Prime(Relics), Prisma(Baro), Vandal&Wraith(Invasions/Events), and syndicate versions. I'm not saying that weapons without prefixes are not good though.

The Hek can carry you through the whole map, but will be lacking as you proceed forward. Consider either getting a Tigris or a Scattered Justice mod for the Hek(I think I have spares of that, hold on) to reliably destroy anything without too much question.

I also would go around and ask for an Ignis blueprint, because that will also burn through the map with ease. Atomos also comes to mind.

As for your question, just because I need a higher MR to use something doesn't directly mean it's better.

I'm surprised no one mentioned it, try the Sobek (with acid shells).

You probably want an Ignis or even better an Ignis Wraith for fast clear of normal content. The Hek, if you put a weapon catalyst into it, will probably be serving you well throughout the entire star chart, if you like that gun.

If you like the Hek then pretty much the only upgrade to it would be the Tigris Prime, which is vaulted to my knowledge. Try the regular Tigris, see how you like it. The Tigirs Prime is a lot better than that. Barring your willingess to trade for the Tigris Prime, you probably want to work on Steel Meridian Rep for a Vaykor Hek.

In general you need the following weapons:

A Shotgun
A Bow
A Sniper
A Regular Rifle

The (Vaykor) Hek will do just fine to fill the shotgun, if you put a catalyst and some forma into it.

For Bows.. the Dread is among the best bows you can get, but currently you can also get your hands on a Paris Prime.

For Sniper... ideally you'd want a Vectis Prime, but thats vaulted. You also probably want a Lanka to hunt Eidolons.. but for general gameplay you probably want a Rubicon (currently available as Prime) or a Vectis. Both of the later two will do Eidolon Hunting just fine as well.

And regular Rifle... the options are manifold. Most people will recommend you a Soma Prime (which is vaulted) and i personally do not like the regular Soma. You can still get the Tiberon Prime right now, which is another frequent recommendation for that slot. Supra is an option. I personally took a shine to the currently still available Sybaris Prime (but not really in regular gameplay - its more of a weapon to use on Cestus).

Since you eventually want to level all the weapons in the game, i suggest getting one of the four weapon types, so you can do all the sorties, and then just try all the other weapons.. see what strikes your fancy.

A bit of a problem is that you basically need a Catalyst for all the guns to make them really come to life.. so its hard to decide what to put them in, at the beginning.

What will hold you back the most is the lack of access to Mods and Catalysts... the Hek wll most likely carry you through the entire Star Chart... still i never liked Shotguns in this game.

No. One of the best Sniperrifles you can get your hands on in this game is MR2. Namely the Vectis. And thanks to the Riven mechanic you can make any gun work.. with enough effort.

Lenz is fun, doesnt need any expensive/hard to get mods to kill anything on the startchart.
Arca plasmor (mr10) which is one of the most satisfying weapons in the game, and it looks amazing after the last update

Since the weapon rebalance mr does provide a vague guideline to a weapons power. But good modding and knowing how to use it makes almost anything viable, though not amazing.

Phantasma, Staticor, Atomos, Atterax.

Tigris Prime is clunky and not very efficient for most content in the game.

I got a riven for it, so it has 100% status chance and it's viable but there are lots of better choices, even without a riven.

I see... that's a lot of knowledge to digest, thank you everyone. In that case, I have another question... how would I judge the weapons myself? Is there a guide for it? There are a lot of stats so how could I for example look at bolto and lex and see which one is better? If it was just the damage, that would be simple math but if you add accuracy, status and crit chance, that becomes a bit more complicated.

Quite easily. Play a solo mission on one of the higher level content. Eris, Sedna, Derlict Sector... that will give you a good idea how the weapon performs. If it melts that content with ease, it should be good for most content of the game. Alternatively, take the weapon to Sanctionary Onslaught (also solo), see how far you can go. Stage 6+ would be ideal with at least a B grade.

When the gun performs well enough (and you should have a comparison with your Hek), you can consider putting a Catalyst into it..

And if you are then able to handle the afore mentioned content with ease.. you can take it into a Sortie.. ideally you want to be able to solo a sortie with a survival frame like say Rhino.

If it can take you through a level 100 enemy mission, you should be good. I mean how likely is it that you gonna end up spending a couple hours in some endless mode to actually see level 150 enemies?

Status Chance and Crit chance/damage, based on ROF and base damage. Its hard to make a general statement, because it depends on the weapon itself and which mods you have available.

I suggest reading the wiki to that end. People generally recommend Status Chance over Crit for level 100+ content.

Yeah, I did some research, and I found there's even different builds for high crit and high status weapons. And I'm only MR7 so 100 level enemies won't be a thing I will see anytime soon I think :P

About comparing the weapons though - the fact that my Hek is cata'd and has some really good mods (not all but some). What is the best way to make it fair?

Obviously modded Hek will destroy any unmodded weapon in comparison. So do I compare both totally unmodded, or do I level up the other weapon to 30 and only put as many mods in Hek?

Lesion is a great melee weapon I never see people using anymore. It has great slash damage and an innate bonus to toxic damage. It becomes a war crime if you mod it with Gas damage. Later on you can mod it with Condition Overload when you have it.

You level it up to 30 regardless, because you want the mastery points. And then you can compare it to what you can do with that capacity... if you feel its good enough for the harder content and you like how the thing works, you can always contemplate putting a catalyst into it.

Usually when its around 30 and you put some mods into it, you can tell if its a weapon you enjoy. The Riven disposition also will tell you how popular the gun is.
