Equinox maim
How does it work? I've seen many videos in youtube but I don't know if she's been nerfed or what. I cast main in day form, get about 500k stacks and then press 4 again but it didn't insta kill heavy gunners lv 130 in simulacrum, but in a video I saw a dude insta killing them with 250.000 (it showed the whole number so I guess that video is old?).
What's the best way to use her anyway?

Her maim, like most abilities that deal damage, gains more damage with power strength. Make sure that you aren't using a mod like Overextended that decreases power strength if you intend on using her maim abilitiy as a nuke. Otherwise, you're killing the damage it does and it will require a lot more damage built up to be able to kill enemies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Maim stores 75% of enemy health and shields as damage. This cannot be modified, and ability strength only affects the initial damage with bleed proc that enemies suffer when stepping inside the aura.

You are wrong. I haven't the time to test this tonight, but the Warframe wiki describes the "aura" damage (which I'm pretty sure is the buildup damage you release) as being affected by power strength. It is the damage conversion percentage that is not affected by it.

Doesn't Maim split the total damage between enemies in range?

If you hit more enemies with it then each enemy will take less damage. This could be the source of the disparity.

1 enemy hit with 250,000 maim would receive 250,000 damage. But 4 enemies hit with 500,000 would receive 125,000 damage each.

Kawalorn, from What I can tell, yes. Also, like the other people were saying you need a lot of ability strength for her maim to wreck all. In the video they probably had a build that was every ability strength mod available and had them maxed. A Heavy Gunner at level 130 is no joke. I use Equinox a lot and usually don't kill everyone around me but take about 1/2 of their health off. This is on Hydron where there are a lot of level 30-50. I wil say I don't have blind rage on her though which doubles the strength. I just don't have that kind of energy.

Just in case you might also want to check if Rage was used. After all it is a big damage bonus.

And now that I checked there is also damage diminishment with distance.

In short there is a huge amount of variables that could affect the situation. It's most likely one of those, and not any change to the ability.

Strength is almost irrelevant for maim. It builds damage based on enemies killed in range, not enemies killed with maim. The only benefit to building str on it is to cheese low level content where you can kill enemies with maim alone.

Strength is very relevant for Maim unless you want to do nothing but tickle the enemies, and take a half hour of having to kill them to charge it up to anything useful.
A high-Strength Maim might not kill them but it's going to contribute to killing them faster, charging it faster.

This is certainly true on Saturn. Unfortunately once you get past that point the initial damage from Maim is negligible whether you have 100 strength or 237. The stored damage, which at high levels is by far the greater amount, is completely unaffected by strength.

I sometimes group with a high strength equinox and always do far more DPS because they either need to drop range or efficiency in order to get their strength up.

Strenght is pointless for a maim build, it only affects the slash damage. Anyways I had 500k but there were only 6 heavy gunners, so each one should have received almost 83k damage but they didn't :/ so that's where I get lost

Maybe he was using one or more CP auras in the video ?

This was the video:

It's 2 years old but I haven't read anything related to nerfs, so I guess it works just like in the video

I'm not saying it's the best way to build her, only that it is not useless.
I don't build Equinox to that point either, where I have Range and Strength pushed to the point where I need an EV Trinity just to run the Maim, i've seen that a fair bit too.

Her Maim does slash damage and slash procs which also trigger a very long impact proc for some strange reason so enemies are staggered while Equinox can walk around in her aggressive form. Her defensive form does none of the stagger, not like stagger is a defensive benefit but guess it made sense for someone....

Anyway, she collects taht damage and damage in AoE from shields of killed enemies while ability is active and nukes that HP.

I feel thing is broken, nuke is alright but stagger feels off in every sense of her role, as well as balance. Her aggressive form, known as Day Form has no defensive abilities apart from Maim which acts like defensive ability as becaus eof the stagger enemies fail to attack you, while her Night Form is all about defense and has no aggressive parts of it.

Again, just my opinion, a lot of pre-rework Ember mains will trash talk how walking around and killing everything is fine but that is not gameplay.
