Multi shot worth it on a rifle?
So I'm trying to build my tiberon prime, and multishot seemed like a good idea, doubles my damage output in full auto mode when fighting enemies. Not bad.

Until I used it.

The multi shots themselves seem to fire off in arbitrarily random directions, sometimes going straight up or straight down, not even close to where I am firing. From my testing, not a single multi shot bullet ever hit a target, or even came close. The only way it could possibly hit is if by some miracle there was an enemy on a balcony above.

So is it worthless? Or am I building it wrong?

I'm gonna say "building it wrong", but i'd need more info on your mod setup.

I have no idea how to build this thing. Any hints would be appreciated.

Only chance of this happening is if you're using Heavy Caliber

of the build working or of the multi shot working?

In my experience, multishots use the same accuracy stats as non-multishots, meaning the extra shots will be in the same grouping as every other projectile would potentially be; even shotguns and grenade launchers won't deviate from the weapon's current accuracy rating with multishot mods. The only way your shots could be going that wide would be due to accuracy-lowering mods or a quirk of the specific weapon you're using.

Normal shots are directly at my cursor. Multi shots veer off in random directions

Multishot accuracy is calculated on its own. The Tiberon doesn't have perfect accuracy, but still heavily benefits from it, like literally every other weapon.

Oh, and if you can't even hit targets at close range with it, then you are doing something wrong.
I can hit targets, I can't hit the multi shots

What weapon are you using? Multishot can be calculated differently and have different effects based on what kind of weapon it's modifying. (Tiberon Prime really shouldn't be having this problem; could be a bug?)

Do you have any other mods installed? Something might be messing with the multishot accuracy calculation, and heavily, if the extra shots are going that wide.

Tiberon prime. No accuracy reduction mods installed. Only seration and elemental effects. Accuracy listed as 33.

That doesn't make sense. You can't even see most bullets coming out of the rifle. Unless you have a mod that decreases accuracy, I doubt you are saying the truth, because the Tiberon has a base accuracy of 33.3. It's not too accurate, but not the opposite either.
I can try to get screenshots if you want.
It turns out I may actually be an actual idiot. When I shoot, about 90% of the time, another "shot" leaves the gun, it's green (my energy colour). This is what I thought the bonus shot was, the green "shots" are the things going in wild directions. I took the mod off. The green things are still there. So... I may be an idiot

Unrelated note, is punch through more important than another damage mod?

For future reference, the bonus shots don't really appear 'in-world' on hitscan weapons. You'll still be seeing only one bullet 'tracer' but enemies will generally have extra numbers flying off them if they survive the first shot.

And I'd say it depends on how high-level the content you're going through is: Punch-through can help clear trash quicker, but if you're fighting a lot of heavy targets I'd recommend a damage mod.

I'm mostly looking for guns that can help me in sorties. I'm sick of having like 1% damage at the end of them, trying all kinds of guns (shotguns, rifles, etc) and tiberon was recommended as one of the best in the rifle category. I like the select fire a lot.

I am curiosu though, what on earth is that green stuff?

I would use multishot on any weapon.

Synoid Gammacor is decent in the Simulacrum, but it's pretty mediocre for regular missions in my opinion. My Phantasma and Staticor killed enemies way faster.

It has suffered a lot, but it's still one of the best secondaries in the game. Powercreep'ed by a few new ones. The staticor isn't bad, but there are way better secondaries. The charge mechanic is annoying as hell. I'd rather use the ugly Atomos over that.
Don't you dare insult my beautiful atomos boi.

You don't have to charge the Staticor, you just spam left mouse button and everything dies (kinda like the Pox but a lot stronger). It's the best secondary weapon in the game in my opinion, although I haven't modded the Atomos properly, so that one might be even better. Synoid Gammacor is a single target beam weapon and nobody needs that, even a rifle is more effective at killing lots of enemies.
