Seems like it could be a secret drop from the new Sanctuary Onslaught... though its complete lack of any description suggests it could also be a leaked item instead.

It's not really a secret drop, since it was put right into the drop table included with the patch notes.

...But I have no idea what it's for!

edit: oh, the guy just before me said what.

5K... that's extremely disappointing. Extremely.

Well, the focus from those shards doesn't count towards daily cap so it's not that bad

Depending on how often they drop, it certainly is. A halfway decent Eidolon hunting group can take down a Teralyst in about 5 minutes for a shard that gives you 25k Focus; a mere 2 tricaps in one 50-minute night cycle can give you as much as 400k Focus worth of shards.

Sorry, didn't do tricaps in a while, so my math could be off, but iirc, you get 2 Briliant and 2 Radiant in a tricap, with a 2 run, that's 4 and 4, Briliant gives 25k, Radiant 40, that's 160k for the Radiants, with another 100k from the Briliant ones, that's 260k, which is just a bit above daily cap. It's not 400k, unless I am missing something.

But yes, compared to that, the 5k doesn't sound much, but then again, it can stack up.

Neither do the Focus from Brilliant Shards and they give 25000 and are easier to get. It's a pointless reward.

Depends for who. Although you need no quest to fight Eidolons, a new player would have an easier time getting Synth's than actual shards, because he can't solo Eidolons, and outside of pugs and groups who do care to help new players in farming Eidolons, groups in recruit rarely take them in, so for those players, having a way to get some easy focus via those shards can be nice.

Not all rewards must be catered towards vets

Not sure if it's bugged one way or the other, but the tricaps seem to be randomly fluctuating between 3 Brilliant and 2 Radiant or 4 Brilliant and 3 Radiant in my experience. I usually seem to be ending up with 5 Radiant after a 2-tricap night.

Maybe DE did something with hidden patch notes (wouldn't be the first time, as Mesa cares to remind us), but last time I did a tricap I only got 2 and 2, hence why I used that as math. If it is indeed more, then that's just the better. Guess I can try a tricap this weekend and see.
