Of course it's not entirely necessary, but I suspect they will implement this in the not-too-distant future as a result of Kavat party buffs and the like becoming a factor as they have.
If you see more party based mechanics from non-kavat companions soon, then expect this change to follow.
As it is, whether you scan something or not, or can briefly cloak sometimes or not, has little to do with how the party will need to prepare itself. ...though, with Shield Charger and Kavats, we're a short distance from this having a functional reason to list companions in party equipment.
