Naturally, being the pilot is the most obvious and sensible role to take.
But why have, say, a defender when you're not being boarded? Better to use that crewmember for something more useful, like a second gunner or an engineer.
crew should defend when the ship is boarded, regardless of base job
that leaves "pilot", "repair guy", turret guy" and "crafter"
or better, make the repair guy also be the crafter
