About +2 minutes later the game continued spawning fish again but then it threw so many infested enemies at me as well that I couldn't fish a ♥♥♥♥.
You can use Ivara, she's actually useful and doesn't require a huge investiment to make her work for exploration.
I use her a lot when a I need to fish, mine some ores or to hunt wild animals.
I don't remember the name but this sounds right. In my experience some fishing spots are just terrible at spawning fish consistently, my guess is that they are too large or too close to other spots so the fish get spread out in places you can't see. For Deimos cave fishing, the tiny cave lake with is my go to, spawns work pretty consistently there.
Back when I farmed it, fish would rarely spawn after you first enter the area.
I would go mine an ore spot in the cave and then check the fish spawns, and usually there would be 4 or so fish floating around.
IMO- Deimos fish seem to be more likely to spawn when you are doing something else. Maybe it is easier with a stealth frame? Don't think I've tried that.
Best way is to fish while up high standing on one of the tendrils over a fishing spot, or just out of the baits active range. if you throw out your bait and then move a good 10 meters or so away juuust far enough that you can just make out the fish spawning (usually they appear as a glowing ball or a tiny shimmer at that distance) they will start to spawn as they should.
If your closer or standing on the water, alot of the spots they simply stop spawning after the initial one with or with out bait... thing is that bug was fixed, more than once and it always comes back. You can also drop bait move a really good way off wait a little while then walk back into range and they should have spawned. Oddly this also kinda or used too, make them spawn faster than they normally would have id assume so you could walk away walk back fish, walk away, walk back and boom fish again.
its bugged, and always has been since about 1 week or so after Deimoses release... they dont call it Bugframe for no reason.
It only works in large caves. But yes it does work.
Some of the caves though don't look like caves - but just a big underground space.
