you're not experiencing what the game actually is, right now. you're a few hours into the game, like you said. you haven't even seen a hint of what the endgame is like. we're all in here giving you good answers as to what you should do, how to approach the game, the best way to progress, and giving you some general knowledge. you turn around and ♥♥♥♥ on the advice or the game with each reply you make.
instead of whining about how you dont get the game or don't know what to do, go and do some research if you're THAT confused, and go and put in some more gametime. it's not hard, there's wikis for almost every mmo out there, if you insist on making the comparison to other "mmo's" with warframe. there is one for warframe as well, go do some research on your own if you're so malcontent with everyone's advice.
Look for the Mods station of your orbiter (First on the left as you come down the ramp).
Pick a mod (Serration, pressure point, anything really), but make sure you only select one copy of the mod. The "Fusion" button on the top left should enable. Press it, upgrade your selected mod by two ranks and "Apply fusion".
That should unlock the last venus gate requirement. You'll probably find you breeze through most of the planetary missions, but Fortuna and the Orb Valis missions are a bit tougher early on. -However- Some mission types may give you trouble when playing solo. Don't feel bad at asking for help if you struggle with things like disruption, defence or hijack.
This approach does come with a warning, as some Warframes can be tricky to get or have quite a few requirements in the way but the logic still works I'd figure.
When it comes to the concerns about difficulty, this is a grind game. Grind games are almost never difficult in a meaningful or fair way, you usually are just annihilating legions of weak enemies chasing after better gear or some other form of progression, and enemies are usually either a joke to you or will really, really hurt. It's the nature of games like this. This is a game about annihilating legions of enemies just by looking in their direction (not quite that bad but), as you collect an ever expanding arsenal of weapons and stuff to keep doing it. Most games of this type have ramping difficulty and improving gear, and while this game has some of that, this is more of a 'gotta get it all' collection game.
Complete all the nodes litreally everything
Then build good weapons,frame ,mods
Farm prime parts and trade for plat
buy nice things and decorate
get Kuva litch weapons
get Corpus litch weapons
max all your factions
Do eidolon hunts max ur operator
Then do fashion frame
rinse and repeat
If you don't have access to Everest or Koba, I'd advise you checking out Cetus and access the Plains of Eidolon. As far as I'm aware, you don't necessarily need to do any missions on the Plains of Eidolon to unlock the rest of the Star Chart Nodes, but I think you just need to access the Plains of Eidolon from Cetus, then leave afterwards and you should have a couple more levels to travel to.
I think there were already some good points made by some veterans, but there has also been a little misinformation or stuff being danced around instead of addressing it directly.
As you progress through the game, you will learn that guides are your friends. Long-term, you will definitely want to prepare for a lot of reading on stuff, including how certain game mechanics work.
Only a few hours in the game, you don't need to know everything, since some things will only open-up naturally (with tutorials) as you go through the game.
Here are a few must-know basics to make progress past the first few planets and start enjoying the different mission types (capitalized key words for emphasis, not yelling lol):
I'm sure there is a recommended MR to level range guide out there somewhere, however the build/mods of your Warframe and weapons matter a lot more than just MR. Technically, with late-game Mods (which you don't have and don't need to worry about right now) you can use your starter Warframe and MK1 weapons to take-out LEVEL 100 missions and enemies (a.k.a. "mobs" from other games). In fact, if you went with Excalibur as your starting frame, you will likely use it (or a later version of it) MANY times even after you master a bunch of other frames you get later in the game.
Even if the drop rate of something particularly useful is very low, once you get far enough in the game, you can get it quickly by playing certain game modes to get other things to sell to other players for a few premium currency at a time. This will allow you to use that currency to get the thing you REALLY want from another player.
In a traditional MMORPG the grind is exponential and you would get things much slower... well, technically, the MR still takes more exp/requires more max-Ranked gear to increase, it's normally faster in the middle MRs once you have a ton of things you can Rank-up very quickly doing Defense missions, but slow at first and towards the end when you have fewer new things available to Rank-up.
As others have stated, do NOT get rid of ANYTHING that has not been Ranked to the maximum Rank of 30. You need to max them to increase your overall MR.
Just for reference, I have over 300 hours in this game, and I still have yet to get my first modular gun or modular melee weapon (not to mention certain end-game weapon types such as Kuva), I don't have a customizable K-Drive, one of those nifty skeleton robots, or my own spaceship. There are just SOOOOO many things to unlock that it keeps me busy in itself. I mean sure, you could just call it all "grind," but for me it the feeling of progression.
In fact, just last weekend I finally unlocked a new mission type that is completely different from what I've been playing for the last hundreds of hours, which will then unlock additional content in another few weeks.
Mostly people will agree that the game generally starts terribly, but gets better later.
Lastly, don't worry about Platinum/premium currency for the first 30-40 hours of the game unless you get a 75%+ discount... it's just not needed. I once bought 3K platinum at that 75% discount, and that got me a huge arsenal of Prime Warframes and rare mods. By that point I had over 100 hours in the game and realized I wanted to keep playing... well... I guess I also spent a little too much on a Warframe pack to get Lavos and his Cedo shotgun... I overpaid, but at least the gear was good. You would be better off just buying the discounted Platinum and buying the slots, Warframe parts, and or weapons from other players... or just play the game long enough to get it all for free. At some point you are bound to have duplicates of everything and only need some Plat for slots or speed-ups.
Fanboy rants are never useful to new players, and just make you the toxic part of the community. Don't be that guy.
Nah, that was obvious, and required to unlock Venus, but also pointless when everything is easy without any mods at all. Now, if there were some way to decrease the cost of mods, that would be nice.
Thanks! Turns out doing the lowest level bounty on Eidolon did it, which wasn't bad once I figured out the random spawn high-level guys were unrelated to the mission, even if they happened to be on top of the mission objective. Now the game has opened up and I can get to the rest of the Earth nodes.
Thanks, great info.
Catalysts and Reactors are rarer to get than Forma, but they double your mod capacity (once per weapon) without requiring you to level the weapon several times. So you should save them for your best weapons, but they're more convenient to use. Also, each Warframe/melee weapon can equip one aura/stance mod (respectively), which increases capacity instead of decreasing it.
Good luck in your Warframe's adventure just keep in mind that you need to take the long term view with the game otherwise you risk burning out.
get weapons
get warframes
