New player: what am I supposed to be doing?
Just played Warframe for a few hours, and now I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next. There are a half-dozen nodes on Earth I can do, but none are challenging now. Plus a couple nodes that I'm clearly too low level for. I can't find any other content.

Someone please clue me in what I'm missing?

When you say you're level 12, I'm going to assume your warframe is level 12.
You being level 12 in level 6 missions makes perfect sense.

OK, then I have to admit I just don't "get" this game. Those enemies die in 1 sword hit, and don't do meaningful damage. Not interesting gameplay (to me, anyhow). When got past wave 15 of the defense mission I have unocked, there were finally enemies that seemed level-appropriate, but by that point there were dozens of them at once and I coudn't defend the whatsit. Was much more engaging for a minute there tho.

Right now the best farming seems to be a capture run I can do in 90 seconds without attacking anything (other than my target), so the only mod that seems to matter is one that lets me move a bit faster. That's gotten pretty old though, never did understand how speed runners just do the same thing over and over like that.

Really, one-shotting enemies that can't hurt you is the intended gameplay? I'm a bit skeptical - I mean, that's normal for the first 5 minutes of a game, but not the first 5 hours. I can't see myself doing that much longer.

Anyway, thanks (and Dizzy too, nice info).

you're not experiencing what the game actually is, right now. you're a few hours into the game, like you said. you haven't even seen a hint of what the endgame is like. we're all in here giving you good answers as to what you should do, how to approach the game, the best way to progress, and giving you some general knowledge. you turn around and ♥♥♥♥ on the advice or the game with each reply you make.

instead of whining about how you dont get the game or don't know what to do, go and do some research if you're THAT confused, and go and put in some more gametime. it's not hard, there's wikis for almost every mmo out there, if you insist on making the comparison to other "mmo's" with warframe. there is one for warframe as well, go do some research on your own if you're so malcontent with everyone's advice.

Okay, Skorj, I think the part that you've missed is how to increase the power of your mods (Which also increases the cost). You'll need some currency called "endo" but you've almost certainly got enough of that for now, if not, just run a few missions more and just dice up some more enemies.

Look for the Mods station of your orbiter (First on the left as you come down the ramp).

Pick a mod (Serration, pressure point, anything really), but make sure you only select one copy of the mod. The "Fusion" button on the top left should enable. Press it, upgrade your selected mod by two ranks and "Apply fusion".

That should unlock the last venus gate requirement. You'll probably find you breeze through most of the planetary missions, but Fortuna and the Orb Valis missions are a bit tougher early on. -However- Some mission types may give you trouble when playing solo. Don't feel bad at asking for help if you struggle with things like disruption, defence or hijack.

When I was new, and wasn't sure what I should next .. I looked up all the Warframes in the game and decided which one I wanted, then how to get it and where to get the materials to build it -- then set to work on doing whatever needed doing to get to that goal and along the way, I found my pace and settled into the game .. by the time I had my desired Warframe, I no longer questioned what to do.

This approach does come with a warning, as some Warframes can be tricky to get or have quite a few requirements in the way but the logic still works I'd figure.

When it comes to the concerns about difficulty, this is a grind game. Grind games are almost never difficult in a meaningful or fair way, you usually are just annihilating legions of weak enemies chasing after better gear or some other form of progression, and enemies are usually either a joke to you or will really, really hurt. It's the nature of games like this. This is a game about annihilating legions of enemies just by looking in their direction (not quite that bad but), as you collect an ever expanding arsenal of weapons and stuff to keep doing it. Most games of this type have ramping difficulty and improving gear, and while this game has some of that, this is more of a 'gotta get it all' collection game.

To be fair, Earth is pretty much the tutorial planet. Aside from the few missions in Cetus/Plains of Eidolon and the Vey Hek boss, most of the missions and enemies on Earth are incredibly easy. It will get more difficult once you start visiting more planets.

If you don't have access to Everest or Koba, I'd advise you checking out Cetus and access the Plains of Eidolon. As far as I'm aware, you don't necessarily need to do any missions on the Plains of Eidolon to unlock the rest of the Star Chart Nodes, but I think you just need to access the Plains of Eidolon from Cetus, then leave afterwards and you should have a couple more levels to travel to.

OK, I will admit this game is confusing... very confusing... especially when you first start.

I think there were already some good points made by some veterans, but there has also been a little misinformation or stuff being danced around instead of addressing it directly.

As you progress through the game, you will learn that guides are your friends. Long-term, you will definitely want to prepare for a lot of reading on stuff, including how certain game mechanics work.

Only a few hours in the game, you don't need to know everything, since some things will only open-up naturally (with tutorials) as you go through the game.

Here are a few must-know basics to make progress past the first few planets and start enjoying the different mission types (capitalized key words for emphasis, not yelling lol):

TLDNR parts to focus on are in bold below.

1.) Mission LEVEL is not the same as gear RANK (they are completely independent). Your main account/profile strength meter is your MASTERY RANK (a.k.a. MR).
That can be increased to 30, however it gains exp from increasing the Rank on your gear (Warframe, Primary, Secondary, Melee weapons, pets, ride-able stuff, etc.). It is completely not linear. All the MR allows you to do is equip better/unique weapons and progress past a few MR locks on a few Nodes. Don't worry about that.

I'm sure there is a recommended MR to level range guide out there somewhere, however the build/mods of your Warframe and weapons matter a lot more than just MR. Technically, with late-game Mods (which you don't have and don't need to worry about right now) you can use your starter Warframe and MK1 weapons to take-out LEVEL 100 missions and enemies (a.k.a. "mobs" from other games). In fact, if you went with Excalibur as your starting frame, you will likely use it (or a later version of it) MANY times even after you master a bunch of other frames you get later in the game.

2.) The Level, Mastery Rank, and Rank in this game progress the OPPOSITE of traditional MMORPGs.
In Warframe, you start out slow and have few things to unlock/craft. As you get further in the game, you will start seeing an abundance of resources, credits, new Blueprints, and "better" missions for faster progression, so you will actually unlock more things FASTER the further in the game you get (I have maybe 25-30 things I have not even claimed from my Foundry, since I'm still Ranking-up gear I already have claimed).

Even if the drop rate of something particularly useful is very low, once you get far enough in the game, you can get it quickly by playing certain game modes to get other things to sell to other players for a few premium currency at a time. This will allow you to use that currency to get the thing you REALLY want from another player.

In a traditional MMORPG the grind is exponential and you would get things much slower... well, technically, the MR still takes more exp/requires more max-Ranked gear to increase, it's normally faster in the middle MRs once you have a ton of things you can Rank-up very quickly doing Defense missions, but slow at first and towards the end when you have fewer new things available to Rank-up.

3.) Your Warframes and weapons all can get ranked up to 30. Each RANK gives you 1 extra Mod capacity, up to 30 maximum points.
This is the only thing you need to know up to this point, so just work with-in that 30 maximum limit. Down the road, yes, that Mod capacity can be more than doubled. Don't worry about that for now. The 30 is all you will need to be able to equip 4 of the mods you need for the requirement.

As others have stated, do NOT get rid of ANYTHING that has not been Ranked to the maximum Rank of 30. You need to max them to increase your overall MR.

4.) There are only a handful of mission types early on, but you generally want to clear every node that you can (regardless of "LEVEL") before leaving Earth
... this does not count the open world (The Plains of Eidolon) map.

5.) Focus on the main and side "Quests" in the top right-hand corner of the Navigation map menus.
Clicking on a Quest there will take you to the next mission to progress the story. This will also unlock cool new rewards you will want. Progressing like this through the first 3 planets will unlock a bunch of weapons, mods, and allow you to increase your Mastery Rank while you also continue to clear nodes and get new mods to drop.

6.) Different mods drop in different mission types.
Try all the different mission types a few times, and you will soon start seeing a bunch of cool ways to customize your Warframes and weapons (and eventually your "pet" or Companion).

Just for reference, I have over 300 hours in this game, and I still have yet to get my first modular gun or modular melee weapon (not to mention certain end-game weapon types such as Kuva), I don't have a customizable K-Drive, one of those nifty skeleton robots, or my own spaceship. There are just SOOOOO many things to unlock that it keeps me busy in itself. I mean sure, you could just call it all "grind," but for me it the feeling of progression.

In fact, just last weekend I finally unlocked a new mission type that is completely different from what I've been playing for the last hundreds of hours, which will then unlock additional content in another few weeks.

Mostly people will agree that the game generally starts terribly, but gets better later.

Lastly, don't worry about Platinum/premium currency for the first 30-40 hours of the game unless you get a 75%+ discount... it's just not needed. I once bought 3K platinum at that 75% discount, and that got me a huge arsenal of Prime Warframes and rare mods. By that point I had over 100 hours in the game and realized I wanted to keep playing... well... I guess I also spent a little too much on a Warframe pack to get Lavos and his Cedo shotgun... I overpaid, but at least the gear was good. You would be better off just buying the discounted Platinum and buying the slots, Warframe parts, and or weapons from other players... or just play the game long enough to get it all for free. At some point you are bound to have duplicates of everything and only need some Plat for slots or speed-ups.

Fanboy rants are never useful to new players, and just make you the toxic part of the community. Don't be that guy.

Nah, that was obvious, and required to unlock Venus, but also pointless when everything is easy without any mods at all. Now, if there were some way to decrease the cost of mods, that would be nice.

Thanks! Turns out doing the lowest level bounty on Eidolon did it, which wasn't bad once I figured out the random spawn high-level guys were unrelated to the mission, even if they happened to be on top of the mission objective. Now the game has opened up and I can get to the rest of the Earth nodes.

My first goal before anything else was to clear entire star chart. After that i picked up quests from index in the orbiter. Those two alone will introduce you to majority of game mechanics. Then when you get a hang of things do whatever you feel like, farm mods, frames etc. There is loads of things to do and best of all you can do everything at your own pace. Have fun.
Skorj 2021 年 7 月 13 日 下午 3:16
And that's finally Venus unlocked, and level appropriate content on Earth too. Thanks all.

Now, if there were some way to decrease the cost of mods, that would be nice.
There is, but it's sort of a late game thing. Using a mod in a slot with the same type polarity cuts the mod's cost in half. Some weapons come with polarized slots, but you can also change the polarization of a slot yourself. Except that first you need to level the weapon in question to rank 30, and you need to spend a Forma (which you can farm from opening relics in void fissure missions). Oh, and it resets the weapon back to rank 0 afterwards, so you have to level it again. And to completely max out a weapon, you might need to Forma it several times.

Catalysts and Reactors are rarer to get than Forma, but they double your mod capacity (once per weapon) without requiring you to level the weapon several times. So you should save them for your best weapons, but they're more convenient to use. Also, each Warframe/melee weapon can equip one aura/stance mod (respectively), which increases capacity instead of decreasing it.

Good luck in your Warframe's adventure just keep in mind that you need to take the long term view with the game otherwise you risk burning out.
