Do you miss out on loot, easily?
New player here, love the game so far, however, I noticed that a lot of loot, like Mods in particular, need to be picked up by getting very close to it. Since many scenarios encourage splitting up, such as Defense and Extraction, as well as killing enemies from afar, doesn't this mean that one potentially misses out on a lot of loot from enemies being killed by allies far away from you?

The main solution to the problem is to grab a mod called vacuum. It works with pretty much every companion (you'll get a taxon sentinel pretty early). That'll increase the pickup distance pretty massively as long as your companion is alive.

Honestly, as long as you're keeping your eyes open, you'll not miss anything of importance really. At least, not much that can't be replaced after a few reruns of a mission.

Edit: My bad. There are two mods, vacuum for robotic companions, fetch for organic companions.

It's possible, though a lot of people manually mark the really rare and important stuff for others to see. Most of the other things are so common nobody pays attention to them anymore.

Loot that drops from regular enemies isn't at all rare. Just stay close to others whenever talking enemies appear and you shouldn't miss out on anything that important.

TL;DR yes, you'll miss loot.

DE understood there is a problem with the manual pick-up mechanic in their city-sized maps and latest railjack missions have shared loot (or so it seems).

I see, thank you, guys, gonna look out for it!

The only scenario encouraging splitting up are a few sabotage missions.
Others DISCOURAGE it, even though a lot of newbs dont get that.
One because of loot, but even more severe especially for newbs: XP.
Its called being a "Hallway Hero", people who think they are oh so uber awesome because they rush for the spawnpoints and kill enemies there, while in fact they cut everyones XP and loot, their own the most, and usually end up prolonging a proper defense with their behavior by messing up spawn patterns. Even more severe on survivals.

Dont be that "hallway hero".

Additionally:
1. Most mods aint worth more than their endo. The few exceptions are indeed usually marked. Most valuable mods dont drop at all though but are mission rewards anyways.
Same goes for resources.
2. Vacuum and its variations (e.g. fetch) indeed help a lot. To the degree that...once upon a time that functionality was the precept, the exclusive for the carrier sentinel. Which as a result saw 98% usage iirc, there literally wasnt any other pet, no kubrow no nothing, in use. So the devs where kinda forced to enable other pets to grab some loot too, and gave carrier the ammo mutation instead.
3. Also for pets: Loot radar, e.g. animal instinct. Seeing the loot on your minni map also helps. Properly done most endless missions tent to produce piles somewhere and its usually worth keeping an eye on those at least. And if its just to step 4 meter to the right while passing by anyways ;)

people mark stuff, rofl , yeah maybe in 1 outta like 100 that might happen. put it this way, your just starting out, so just pick up every single thing, this is space ninja grind loot speed run fest.

The few things worth it- yes. Which talking about drops- are only a very few.
Like toroids, which you usually farm specifically anyways. Coincidentally that farm also has a few of those rare valuable drop mods, the elemental damage mods for companions.
And i usually see people, even randoms, mark both of those.
GladiatorDragon Aug 6, 2021 @ 8:11am
It happens occasionally, but not much. If you're farming for it, you'll ensure you check every possible drop.

From what I understand I miss nearly half of the drops in survivals where people run into the opposite corners of the map and don't mark anything. Orokin cells, mods, argon crystals. morphics, neurodes, you name it. As the result I have much more auto-marked ayatan stars than orokin cells or neurodes, for example.

I too thought resources were a problem, always not enough. After two weeks I had so much stuff I stopped caring.

Wow, I did not know that, thank you for mentioning! I always try to wait for others to catch up if I do happen to be farther away, but I have yet to see a single time people not just rushing as quickly as possible to the target(s). I mean, I get it, time is money, literally, the faster you are, the more instances you can loot, but I do appreciate a slower pace myself.

Have yet to see anything pop up on the minimap. Rarely, enemies are highlighted and the only items being marked are those stars, whatever they are, as well as those things from Void Fissure, however, I don't think that I am as far into the game yet for loot to be valuable enough. Though I can definitely see how much better this game is with friends instead of randoms.

How about you move around the map too. Ayatan stars drop on all tilesets so are easier to get. A few days ago i got out of a Hepit capture with 8 amber and 6 cyan stars. On the other extreme i had multiple one hour survivals on Ceres with ZERO orokin cells both solo and in a group that stayed together.

The only loot you really need down the line is Endo.
And most Veteran players like my self - if I am in your game will mark rare mods for new players to pick up.

Its upto the players to notice the HUD Notification to go pick it up.

Marking it on the mini map needs the "effects" <Enemy Radar> or <Loot Radar> respectively.
Animal instinct can be put on a pet and offers both.

How about you do not sabotage the team by pushing the spawns further away, but stay put for -without exaggeration- 6-8 times the loot and xp for everyone? (depending on map and faction)
Just sayin...
