You can't keep one sadly.
They act like "vehicles" like the Dagryns you find on PoE

Which is a big letdown for me i was hoping we could build a modullar one like we can with the infested pets.

You can't keep it forever, no. It's just a temporary, organic, alternative to a K-Drive, for now anyway.

There's a skin for K-drives you can get that makes it look the bugs

Vilcor (aka father on deimos) sells velocipod skins for your CUSTOM (aka non default) k drive.

That enables you to use a bug skin on the kdrive forever.
