yes just to level up your character to the next mastery level.

the best melee weapons are going to be zaw polearms (cyath IMHO), prisma cleavers and zaw daggers.

Ah, then no, not really in the grand scheme of things. Level it up and sell it on :)

The broken war is about the best early game sword that you get free with a catty after finishing the war within (not including just outright buying weapons for plat)

Edit: Just need to add: I agree with the freesword thing, the heat sword is still one of my fave swords and it got me all the way up to TWW on PS4 my 1st time round and this time again on PC. Get the heatsword, then get the Broken war, then ask some vets for advice or make your own decision on what youve enjoyed the most along the way.

That's more the Prisma Skana though.

Ah thats true. It was the Prisma Skana I was using to late game on PS4 and the normal skana will not, as you say, perform to the same standard. Probably late mid game but I suspect even with a great build it will struggle on the final sorties where other easy to get swords, like the BW and the HS will outperform it vastly.

I wouldnt recommend 3-4 formas and a cat in the normal skana.
