Finish the tutorial and possibly first few tutorial missions. Then you can invite your friend once you have both done this (note some specific quest missions are solo only tho but most stuff is multiplayer). You can own like 30 different warframes and a couple hundred weapons if you have the slots and build the stuff.
I waited for my friend to finish the 4th mission and we teamed up for the next one. Unfortunately he can't play very often and I would like to continue with the game. You say I can have many different warframes but it's not clear if those are seperate characters that play independenty of each other or simply a different class for the same character. I'm still not clear on the "warframe" concept I guess.
I would like to play a different character from the one I use to play the game with my friend. Is that possible? If so then how can I do that? Thanks
You have limited number of slots unless you buy them with platinum. An early frame people get is Rhino.. you get its parts by killing the boss of Venus over and over. The blueprint is in the market terminal in your orbiter and is purchased with "credits" the easy to get common in game currency.
If you really want to play strictly alongside your friend, make another account just to play at his pace. It's mostly pointless though, there's nothing wrong with playing ahead then just voting on the old missions you've done ahead of him and playing through them with your friend.
When he invited me to join him with our missions out of sync he was advised I had already completed that mission. From what you're saying I should be able to replay the missions which is fine with both of us, but how when the game won't let us? We are early on in the game and still gathering parts for our ship.
Other missions are solo only.
Don't worry about the quests so much. You will be playing together in all the other activities that make up 90% of the play time.
You don't get characters as such no. So you the Tenno can change out which Warframe you use and which weapons you use at any time for each specific mission.
----
The level of a weapon and Warframe can be though of as your level of familiarity with it. So at level 1 you only just learned the controls. At level 30 you've mastered the powers and nuances of it. Hence being able to add more mods and such.
Your Player level or Mastery Rank is a representation of how many different Weapons and Warframes you have mastered.
Power in the game is tied to neither of those. It is actually tied to your Mods and how you've leveled them and applied them to your Gear. For example with the right Mods a MK1-Braton can kill end game enemies well enough to be used at that level. Compare that to a poorly modded Tigris Prime which would struggle to do that.
Players can join a mission that is already in progress up until at least one objective has been completed (including rotations). Rotations are A, B, and C on certain mission types (Survival, Defense, Excavation, etc.) where there is a reward/extract option after certain progress has been made. In survival rotations are at every 5 min increments, defense every 5 waves, excavation every 2 Excavators I believe (? Don't recall 100%).
If you are both out of mission sitting in your ship you can always join up into team then try starting mission.
Your account is a single character/progress. Warframes (the suits like Excalibur, Rhino, Volt, etc.) are effectively classes and you can have any number of those so long as you have the slots (buy more slots with platinum gained via real world money or trading in-game farmed stuff to playres for plat).
