Edit: Price fixing is a thing though, but it's not very common because it's so much easier to make plat by trading rivens or vaulted stuff.
Gotta agree with this. If you use warframe market as a reference point you'll be selling for far less than items are actually worth. Basically there's an over saturation of supply driving prices down. It is good for buying cheap to flip sets though if you've already got the platinum to risk.
If you're desperate for platinum then by all means go for the price listed on warframe.market but if you're patient and don't mind waiting a bit you'll find someone willing to pay much more.
For instance I sold Vauban for 350 earlier today and Frost for 500, which was still probably too cheap.
My advice for future price checks would be to study trade chat a bit. You can set filters for specific words so you can get a good idea of the average price of an item. You can also do something like "wts vauban prime set, pmo" and see what others are willing to pay. Or just pick a price and hope you find someone with more disposable income than free time. They're definetly out there.
In short, I'd say you can reliably sell Vauban at around 350 and his price is bound to increase as supply dries up if you're willing to wait.
For most things, the prices listed in warframe.market seem to be fairly consistent and be a closer example of how much something is 'worth' as it actually tracks and records not only what things are being listed at, but also what things are reportedly being sold at. Whereas the market is ruled mostly by people who do a heavy amount of reselling while trying to dictate higher prices, with no real way to see what is being bought and sold other than what prices people state as.
Generally, unless you like sitting there spamming messages for hours looking for a buyer, you're just best off listing on the site, accepting the slightly less platinum, but being able to spend your time doing more farming while you wait for a buyer to contact you. About the only thing I would bother trying to sell in trade chat is bad rivens, and only because I just want the thing gone.
While correct, the problem with this mentality is that most people in the know will just buy it cheaper through the site, so you are looking at far lower frequency of responses and more time spamming trade chat. Plus the part of knowing that you are essentially selling things to people for more than what they could be paying simply to line your own pockets.
"Oh, it's worth more than that, waaaaagh"
None of the items in Warframe are "worth" anything, except what people are willing to sell them for and people are willing to buy them for. It is a player-driven market. There are NO set prices, and those prices CHANGE.
As a seller you CAN ask for any price you want, but no-one will buy it. As a buyer you CAN ask for any price you want, but no-one will sell it to you. And somewhere in the middle you reach an agreement that satisfies both. It is intrinsically "worth" nothing.
Warframe.market is providing the means by which people can evaluate the current market "worth" of an item, within a range, and not be gouged by those IN the game who believe that last years prices are still valid, or that there is no alternative to Trade Chat, and they can't gouge.
You can't really "fix" prices unless you own nearly all of an item, which isn't possible. You can't drive down the price because people will just snatch up all the low sell prices and you can't drive up the price because people looking for quick sales will always undercut.
The market does fluctuate and you should sometimes wait, but the seller prices are always a good judge of what an item is worth.
...still hoping that rubs off on Mag.
I know it wont.
Another old thread necro'd.
Another clueless reply.
Another report.
