Mastery weapon fodder?
Hey all,
I read a few comments in various places people ranking up weapon just to get mastery points .
Is it really worth the while to rank up those weapons which you may never use again (and probably in a few cases -- weapons really suck bigtime --- im finding Kraken & Bastillica for example...well pretty dire..thinking of doing Tetra and Stug but wondering whether its worth time wasted.)).

Also which missions would people suggest be used to rank those weapons up asap? Are survival and defense missions potentially the ones where you may end up with highest body count/ranking up ?

cheers

Hydron, Sedna. It's the go-to for levelling basically everything, a dead easy Grineer defence mission. A usable weapon can be done in two runs to wave 10 with an affinity booster, an exalted weapon can be taken all the way to 30 in a single run, a completely unused weapon (ie. true MR-fodder trash) will take no more than three runs.

Sanctuary onslaught, Hydron on Sedna, also while it might take longer, Io on Jupiter so you can level up your weapons alongisde getting relics that contains parts for soon to be vaulted warframes.

Stug is actually quite an interesting weapon, although if i would like to level up quickly, i would pick Saryn Prime (Or Octavia) and do elite sanctuary since her abilities will do the work for her.
And not being a burden might be a good idea so have some kind of backup plan if your weapons suck major ass.

On Hydron you are facing hordes of somewhat high level grineer so some embarrasing assault rifle wont do a dent in their armour. So Io might be a good place, enemies aint so hard and they are not bullet sponges either and you get relics as a bonus.

well you get the +1 free modding capacity for each mr you have.

i'm MR 20 i got + 20 free mods capacity thingy
when i put catalyst on my weapon instant get 40 capacity without leveling the weapon

pretty handy

There are a number of really useful weapons and quests locked behund MR.

You can actually level till about 5 or 6 just focusing on mostly useful weapons and 10 with just Warframes.

Currently the highest MR lock is 14. But by then Hydron, IO, Helen and Sanctuary Onslaught should be easily available to you.

Early on I use to just take a leveling secondary and melee with me at all times. Basically only used my primary as i progressed theough star chart.

Don't run an ability damage frame for weapon leveling -- ability kills only give affinity to the frame so they don't level weapons.

To level weapons, you want to:

Kill with the weapon for 50% affinity to frame 50% to that weapon.
Get objective affinity (spy hacks, intercept captures, etc.) for 25% to frame and 75% split between all equipped weapons.
Squad mate kill shared affinity for 25% to frame and 75% split between all equipped weapons.

Other than kills with abilities or with a specific weapon, the 25% frame / 75% all weapons rule generally applies.

This means you can use a support frame in a squad and only equip 1 weapon to level it and all of the killing from the squad gives that weapon 75% of the affinity. Or, you can equip only that leveling weapon and run solo spy missions and get that 75% of the big no-alarms hack affinity for the weapon.

If you're unable / unwilling to run a support frame and do little to no killing in a squad, you can take the leveling weapon and 1 weapon you can fight with and still get 37.5% of the affinity shared by squad mates applied to your leveling weapon.

As mentioned above, elite sanctuary onslaught and hydron on sedna are typical affinity farms -- almost always squads running them.

Mastery Rank is ONLY essential with what is the current max MR requirement is for items. The highest so far to my knowledge is MR 15. To surpass that is to just to be a "fodder".

MR16, to have no Rivens locked from you.

Leveling weapons for mastery increases your minimum capacity which in turn makes leveling weapons easier. Later game when you forma lots you’ll be releveling a lot, so yeah it is worth it.

Sanctuary onslaught is a good option earlier because you’ll be farming Khora components, and she is a great frame. Equip two good weapons and level your third passively until it packs enough punch to earn its own XP.

It is worth it since you get the MR, but you also get to try the weapon out, and who knows if you happen to come across a hidden gem (in your own personal opinion)

Example: I got an Ether Sword blueprint for a login reward and built it, and found out it has radiation procs on slam attacks, which is really cool for how I like to play. I didn't keep it, but it still felt pretty cool to discover how it worked. Might even go back to it if I didn't hate swords.

Oh, some of those meh weapons get godlike if you find the right riven or mod later in game. Meh weapons have the highest riven disposition so get the most buffs, and given that rivens are random chances are when you do crack one it’ll be for something unpopular. I’ve got a great collection of weapons I dropped earlier, only to crack a riven and find them late game viable. Even a humble Lato. ;)

Check nightmare, syndicate, and now nightwave mods etc. many meh mid game weapons have something to make them relevant.
