I doubt there would be any issue if they scrapped umbra and renamed them prime.
By having umbra polarity it just means they don't have to backtrack and remove something probably added in haste.
That doesn't really explain much, people are mad because DE said a while ago they weren't going to do it, then they changed their mind. Like nobody has ever done that before in the history of mankind.
C'est la vie.
I remember when people were saying that the Umbral mods were ♥♥♥♥, now it's a 'power creep' for Umbral Forma. 'Kay. This community is so split its sometimes ridiculous.
This Umbra Forma stuff... isn't unlocked until you reach rank 29, where each rank costs 10,000 standing, and you only get one single Forma. There is no information on whether or not we will ever get more Umbral Forma in future Nightwave seasons, and according to https://ws.warframestat.us/pc this season will last until May 5th.
That means it's approximately three months between seasons, which means by the time you get a full set of Umbra Forma for your Warframe, it will have been at least half a year to nine months. Plenty of time for Excal Umbra to still be special, I would say.
New weapon releases generally tend to be bit stronger than the older ones so that people are interested in getting them. Kitguns especially were a huge "powercreep". Rivens were a huge powercreep. Arcanes were a huge powercreep. Every new mod Warframe could possibly release that would be worth replacing an old one in your build would be powercreep.
Avoiding that is just impossible, and probably not even desirable. People playing any game like this generally want to be able to become stronger as the time goes on.
Limited enough I will likely be storing it / unable to decide where to put it ^^
I do hope they avoid making them more common.
So apart from it being a lie it is also bait and switch which players will always dislike.
As mentioned many times over and over, I hope this is a one time exclusive thingy and that is it.
I would not like it to be more common than one per year.
I do not find it a huge issue there is ONE Umbral Forma out there. But of possible outcomes on what DE will do with it next, like if it becomes a thing you farm on regular it is a pretty crappy move that ♥♥♥♥♥ on our forma investments and IF they wanted power creep there are easier ways, like I suggested many times they can make ALL warframe augments to fit in Exilus Slot. Many warframes would get a direct buff from this as in most cases benefit from exilus slot is do do unless you put mobility mod in there OR a warframe augment.
Much less dirty way to do it, and it would make Exilus adapter way more viable than it is now, 2 fixes in one move.
Umbral Polarity ♥♥♥♥♥ on out dedication to do 7+ forma, ♥♥♥♥♥ potentially on people's money and lowers player's trust in devs.
From objective standpoint I could see then doing better things than htis, but I am most worried what is next with it.
If it is a one time thing than any new player will cry.
If they make it common enough so everyone can get it than dedicated players will have stupid op builds and again it would be a cleveland steamer on our dedication we had before.
If they make it limited in a sense that each player can have only like few of them then I can see it being right.
Problem with that however is that every few months we get a new warframe, we get new primes so there could be a new warframe you would prefer to have your Umbral Forma on.
So limited number per account and you can take it down and move it to another warframe.
It still sucks but I cannot see a better way to handle this in the long run, like 3-5 per account and you can take it down, like taking it down uses form abut does not drop to lvl 0 or something.

I could be wrong tho, I do not claim this. Steve is a director but far from only guy in game so it could be someone else insisted it goes in the game
Anyway Umbra forma is great for new players that have no primed mods, DE will probably only give this one now and another in another season/event.
Same thing if you invest into an item that gains a Prime later. You got to use a powerful build early in the game, and it's not like it loses viability just because a new forma is added.
If you can't accept the idea that your builds may get power creeped later (potentially months or years later), then you're never going to enjoy game content as it gets added because you'll keep putting off super-builds in some insane anticipation of the power creep.
And it's not like the Umbra Forma would mean all those Forma were wasted, it means that maybe 1 or 2 of them were unnecessary, and that is really small loss for any sort of veteran player who actually bothers to make bunch of Umbral mod builds. Umbra Forma doesn't mean that anyone actually wasted 7+ Forma on anything.
