Event itself is pretty chill, and can be run solo. Mesa works pretty well. Or Limbo i guess. Frost gets some trouble with jumping enemies, and even with good FPS fissures are visual vomit, so it's hard to orient yourself.
There's also the hyenas which definitely ignore stasis and possibly the rift altogether. I think the jackal can as well, but since it sticks out so much it's very easy to kill before it becomes a problem.
My best experiences so far have been with Gara, I don't think you can cast splinter storm on the canister the way you can with other defence objectives but you can cast it on your squishier allies (if available, also works on pets). And, of course, you have the wall which does block eveything, including hyenas, though the occasional moa will jump over it. If it's near the road you also want to be wary of Coildrives as they will destroy any section wall they drive through.
When the launcher is open, there's a gear icon in the corner, and clicking on it will open another window with a few options like optimization. (Verifying through Steam will not do anything)
As for warframes Gara, Frost, Mesa and Limbo are my personal favorites, but beware the bullifier bubbles.
I got some of them near the temple of grofit, so i think is different when defending canisters.
For the first issue i would recommend one of the "nuke" frames that also have defensive utility such as Octavia, Mag or Nova. For the second issue try using a high survivability frame that also has a bit of AoE damage for control such as Oberon or Gara but only use these if you have weapons you know are capable should you need to rely on them
