Help with Gifts of the Lotus - Excalibur Dex Skin
I'm a relatively new player, mastery rank 5, level 30 for some basic gear (Excalibur, Braton, some other stuff, nothing fancy).

I thought I was doing decently for the point I'm at, but this mission's made me question that.

I finished the other Gifts of the Lotus missions without any problem, but trying the Defense mission for the Excalibur Dex Skin twice, I don't see how I can possibly succeed.

Both times, the Grineer Defector died around wave 7 or 6 (I'm not sure exactly). We simply get overwhelmed.

Is it just me, or is this mission especially hard solo?

I'd be fine if I were on my own, but having to protect that idiot defector's really testing my patience.

He/she/it keeps running off and chasing after enemies and getting ganked. I try to drop some small heals, but they don't within the AoE of the healing.

It doesn't help that I can barely see anything, between the darkness and the explosions. I try to stay with the defector to keep the heat off of them, but half the time, they've just run off and I can't even tell where they are. The little yellow indicator can be easy to miss sometimes. Or maybe I'm just blind.

Any tips? Is there some key tactic I'm missing? Maybe I'm just not meant to be able to do this mission alone?

I'm not particularly struggling with killing the enemies, but my issue is mostly that I can't see them before it's too late and they gang up on the defector.

And stop trying to "solo everything" crap, it's coop game for a reason.

the one where you guard the NPC in the dark?

yeah that ones harder then the others.

having a good party combination helps, as does getting defector stuck somwehere so he dosnt move around.

As I said. New player. I only have Excalibur.

Well, I've got a Rhino in the forge... it'll be ready in a bit over a day. But I doubt I'll have a better time doing the mission with a level 0 frame.

No party, it's just me.

Any tips for getting the defector stuck?

Give him a weapon, grab the weapon back.Usually it tends to stay in place after that.

How do I do that? I didn't notice any interaction prompts when getting near them.

As a new player you probably can't solo this. Excal as a frame can but you would need a lot of energy for radial blind and probably some healing pads for the defector also.
It's not a super hard mission but it does have some difficulty.

Thanks. A little frustrating, but I guess good to know that I'm not missing something obvious.

I guess what surprises me most is the difficulty spike compared to the other missions.

Or maybe I'm just particularly bad at this type of mission. I've never been good at babysitting in games.
Well, I hate to be that guy.

But you're defending a Grineer Baliff (a heavily armored, teleporting jet pack equipped Butcher) that while is dangerous to you, a Tenno, is not very powerful against his own Grineer brothers because, Butcher.

In addition, you're fighting the Nightwatch Corps. The most elite of Grineer apparently. More elite than spoiler Grineer units and Tusk Grineer.

Basically, the odds are stacked against you.

You can't. He mixed up the defense objectives from sortie.

The defector probably got killed by the Manics. Those assassin-like Grineers who can deal a lot of damage if left unchecked and the dark room really works in their favor.

Nah, it's fine. This is probably not the mission for me.

The first time I tried it was thoroughly unpleasant and already once too many. I'll give it another shot tomorrow, then probably just give up. It's just a skin, after all.

I'll try that tomorrow, thanks. First time for everything, I guess.

Ah, too bad. Thanks.

And yeah, I didn't even notice such an enemy. It's all just dark and chaotic.

This ended up doing the trick, thank you.

I know it's silly, but I'd never bothered with multiplayer before, so I didn't realize how simple/easy it was. Hadn't even thought of it, honestly.

Guess I assumed it was a more complicated business, having to find teams or something.

MP in warframe is great fun. It has its problems, as you often spawn in with people who want to rush the objective or have a different play style - particularly hard to find a team who want to do what you do in open worlds for example. When there's a shared objective though, like alerts or a nightwave task it is often really great.

I mostly solo myself, but spend quite a bit of time set to public anyway to see what pops up. Later in the game/starchart quite a few map locations become more specialised for a particular task or farm, and your odds of finding other random players with the same objectives gets better.

Glad you got your stuff. :)
