Sentinel, Kubrow or Kavat?
Newish player who does not really know much about these things: Which of those three is the best option, in general? And of each, which is the best one, in general?

Thanks!

They all have their uses, but Sentinels are generally superior for their vacuum ability, picking up everything for you. A lot of people tend to avoid using pets since they lack this ability.

And I've heard Carrier is the best Sentinel?

Sentinels seem to be better; you can mod their guns to be fairly potent whereas animals need too much defense / utility/damage to really get it all on them. Also animal dying is an issue (its not forever, but it affects their morale) while robot dying has no penalty and can even get you a mod for your troubles. Ive got my robot deth rifle modded for high rate of fire and it strips off corupus shields quite well, if nothing else, and it also kills starmap enemy pretty effectively. Better, as mesa and some others, it shoots at enemy I cant see and I can see where to aim myself.

carrier is recommended back when only it had vac. Now they can all do it, and I like longer ranged ones.

I used to solo opening a lot of lockers with kubrow & letting it dig up ammo and power for me (along with occasional mod). Its been a while since that was worth doing for me, but a new player might get some fun from it.

they are ALL worth mastery points...

Honestly it's strawberry vs chocolate. The whole reason for using a sentinel is for vacuum, which is included on all sentinels, so you take whichever flavor you prefer.

I tend to use my gazal djinn or helios prime for aesthetics, but it's really up to you.

Well, I was reading somewhere Carrier has the most health out of the sentinels?

Carrier is pretty useful because of the Ammo Mutation precept (mod) that he has turning dropped ammo into ammo that your currently wielded gun uses which is useful if you have ammo hog type weapons. Other popular used Sentinels have their own usefulness but some of the more used ones are: Helios for automatic scanning (and with Detect Vulnerability then your Helios will open up weakspots similar to Banshee's Sonar) along with Deconstructor (quite a powerful sentinel weapon if modded right), and Taxon for Overshields plus the Artax for easy cold procs on an enemy. Though, I do like using Wyrm because it looks cool and has a semi-neat crowd control ability (can also use an Artax on it for the heck of it) and Shade (mainly use this for my Star Platinum themed Atlas to go invisible for a brief while / until I attack).

People do use other pets such as:

-Huras Kubrows for their better than Shade invisiblity buff
-Smeeta Kavat for the amazing buffs ( http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Charm )
-Adarza Kavat for more reliable crits

Since you are just starting, Id reccomend Shade as your sentinel (invisibility is super useful), and then whatever you can incubate for kubrows and kavats

Helios Prime is the best Companion outright.

As stated above, it kind of depends on what YOU as a player prefer. I run both the Helios sentinel and a Smeeta Kavat.

The helios sentinel gives me codex scans and the vacuum ability, as well as revives me a number of times due to the mods I have installed. I use him for high level missions since I don't have to worry about reviving him (primed regen is your friend).

I use my Smeeta Kavat for about everything else. She's got great damage and utility (namely knockdowns, distraction, and armor removal), and can provide a number of buffs, such as guaranteed orange crits for 30 seconds, instant reload, and a rare resoure drop.

Of course, I switch them around from time to time depending on the mood, but you get the idea.

Carrier is the best sentinel when you're using something that eats up a lot of ammo, like any rifle or the kohm.
Sentinels as a whole are superior because they can s u c c everything.
We are literal gods. Walking up to stuff to grab them? Ludicrous.

Carrier (prime) has the better survivability amongst other sentinel. It also can convert ammo depending on your weapon of choice and increase its max ammo. That's why it's mostly called as best one, however in cases where ammo management is not needed, it's not needed hence where other sentinel came in.

My preferred choice is Helios, Smeeta Kavat during rare resource and plain run, and Helminth when using Nidus / Inaros.

I can use any pet. I just adapt to it. If using a controller like I do, any pet/sentinel is good to pick up targets you may be too slow to move your sights to. Or when you want to concentrate on something else, your pet can pick on whatever is attacking you.

Make sure to give them useful procs. All sentinels can use vacuum to pick up items for you. Kubrows and Kavats can't. But it's not a must have ability for me. What is a must have is to have something, anything, helping me out there. So study your options and pick you you feel is best for you. Though if you want mastery points, you may anyway want to level up any and all pets you may come across.

As you can tell sentinels are the favorites, and rightfully so. If you're looking for the best, they're it. However, I didn't like them much- especially early on, and found the utility (and the more intractable aspect) of pets to be a far more enjoyable experience for me personally.

I started with Kubrows, but I'm now using Kavats. I recommend grabbing carrier first and then playing around with getting pets, probably would still start with Kubrows. I do think they're worth it to new players. (If you want some imprints, I am willing to part with some for free. Since I don't breed much anymore my stocks low though).

Kubrows: Sahasa was my favorite and main companion for years as a new player just for the fact that it digs up energy orbs at the start of the mission and admittedly for its enemy takedowns. Energy wasn't a big issue for me with this dog. Raksa is also a great one: it's durable and the shield recharge howl is always useful. Have taken both into high level missions and while Raksa is generally more end-game friendly, I still love Sahasas pretty much everywhere else. I think new players will generally appeciate the support these two provide.

Unless you're into stealth, in which case the Huras is a good breed, I'd say the other dogs aren't worth your time.

Kavats: Both are great! As a beginner, I would try to get the Smeeta as most buffs from the charm ability are useful (especially the resource increaser). I use mainly Adarza now for the guaranteed critical buff to my team. Usually don't have an issue with cats downing.

Pets will make you stretch your legs, but it's not as bad as a lot of posts make it out to be. I haven't used vacuum since 2015!

I hear tell of a pets 2.0 rework coming up, I hope it makes kubrow and kavat as usefull as sentinals currently are.

Thank you very much everyone for the input! I guess I'll stick with my Helios for the time being and try to work on getting a Carrier Prime.
