never!
On another note my Rhino just got done so there that too
i wanted to give my note on this yesterday but it was late so anyways.
Rhino is easy mode. he is no way bad but just easy. i used to bring him whenever i went to higher missions and didn't feel like putting any effort. equiping my Arca Plasmor and poping out my 2.6k shield and cc whenevr needed. and that's it. no effort needed. and yea you have a damage buff too!
Excalibur on the other hand is a risky warframe. but rewarding when played right. with spoiler free advice i suggest you to progress through the story as you will gain access later on to other version of Excalibur, Excalibur Umbra, which is much better and comes with its own orokin catalyst and mods!.
in order to have an Excalibur that can be viable at higher ranks missions you need to understand how his sustain mechanic works first. it is wrong to be a glass cannon that can get one shotted by enemy mobs. and having so much health/armor/shield where you deal low damage is not the way to go either. the core mechanic of Excal relies within two mods. Rage (or hunter adrenaline) and Life Strike.
Rage converts 40% of damage taken on health to energy ( hunter adrenaline is 45% but with 11 mod cap compared to Rage's 9, it is only 2 but i prefer to save it for other mods). but that damage needs to hit your health points directly as it doesn't apply to shields.
now Life strike is a channeling mod which means it only activates when you channel energy on your melee weapon. it converts a percentage of that channeled damage dealt to enemies to health. so the more damage you deal the more health you gain back. i think you started to get what i mean. you take damage, that damage regeneratee your energy drained by Exalted Blade. you use that energy to deal damage and gain back health and repeat.
Rage mod goes in your Warframe slot. Life strike goes in your Exalted Blade. try to farm these two mods they are a great combination for Excalibur's Exalted Blade. now the rest of the list gonna be mandatory mods like power strength, health and energy on your warframe and pure damage on your EB. there is that augment called Chromatic Blade which can boost your EB alot so try to have it in your arsenal.
i'm recently getting into Excalibur umbra and i'm having so much fun with his aggressive playstyle. i'm playing him in 70+ rank missions and my mods are not all yet maxxed but this is the mechanic i'm relying on to stay alive. i don't rely on weapons at all. i take out my Exalted Blade, jump into enemy face, try to clear as many as i can, when my energy is near zero i let my guard down a bit to trigger Rage then go back into action. if the enemies are too strong to be one-shotted i draw their attention and try to stay alive as long as i can so i can buy some time to my teammates to use their nuke abilities or revive someone.
all in all he is so fun to play. if you need any farther help feel free to ask in game or here.
To add onto what Hearts and Lips said, another mod later on you would want to get is Condition Overload. This mod increases the damage you deal against enemies that have status effects (more status effects at once = more damage). Paring that with the status effect chance boost you get from Chromatic Blade will let you melt right through enemies.
Also, remember that the best way to avoid damage is your mobility, master it, and keep on the move. Since you're using Excal you can also use your 2nd ability to blind enemies when you're in trouble.
Eventually there will be more defensive and healing options at your disposal (Arcanes like Guardian which increase armor, melee mods that can heal you, syndicate weapons with healing procs, etc), but for now these are some of the basics.
If you are using exalted blade, consider getting a hold of Cromatic Blade and putting Healing Return on your exalted weapon. Even with a small bit of leveling of this mod you will get a decent amount of vitality back with each blade hit.
Otherwise, learn to move and shoot at the same time. Bind roll to a different key than sprint. Moving and bullet jumping adds evasion, while rolling reduces the damage you take from all sources. Movement really is the key to this game.
