Do i need fortuna's mining laser to get all the gems? I cant equip both cetus and fortuna's lasers

The Fortuna laser is a direct upgrade to all the Cetus cutters.

Currently, the Sunpoint Mining Drill from Fortuna is capable of mining everything in Orb Vallis and everything in the Plains of Eidolon. However, I fully expect that to be changed some time in the next few days, as it is highly unlikely DE intended to allow players to skip a significant chunk of Plains progression with something that can easily be acquired day-one on Fortuna.

I was coming to ask the same thing. Is there anything the Advanced Nosam Cutter can do that the Sunpoint Plasma Drill can't? And if not, doesn't that kind of invalidate a huge chunk of the Cetus progression path? I had to earn the Surah rank with the Ostron in order to be able to craft Operator Arcanes. Not that I mind, honestly - if it spares others that annoying grind then I'm all the happier for it - but it does make me wonder if that's intentional.

Is the Shockprod Fishing Spear also better than all the Cetus spears? I can do without having to carry three (make that four) separate spears...

You can't farm normal fish with the electric prod, that's illegal both irl and in cetus

Fortuna fishing rod is made for fortuna fishies, won't work on cetus fishies. So the fishing in cetus hasn't changed, but the mining laser from fortuna is a straight upgrade.

Cetus fishing spears do work on Fortuna fish, but they damage them. So they're only good for the bare minimum resources from those Servofish.

Forget about the Nosam cutters, you can buy the Sunpoint Driller and do the same job as the best mining laser in both the Plains and Orb Vallis.

Does the new Fortuna Drilling laser also have the radar of the Advanced drill from Cetus? if all of this is true then I'm quite a bit pissed off, nothing like grinding for weeks to get my Cetus rank maxed out only for DE to just toss out a Tier 1 drill that's apparently better in every way..... not a fan of that.
Not to mention mining on and off for the past 2 days with the Advanced Drill...... thank you DE for finding new ways to waste my time.

Related question - what's the point of the Focused Nosam Cutter now? I remember that it offered better mouse-drawing precision under the old MS Paint Mining system, as compared to the basic Nosam Cutter, but how does that work in the new QTE Mining system? The Advanced Nosam Cutter can mine Eidolon Gems and has a minimap display of resource nodes so that one I get, but in what way does the "middle" cutter help over the basic one?

Afaik they didn't factor that into it and went for the 'this is a straight upgrade in everyway' system (which I don't like). Sadly, in this case there doesn't appear to be a side grade.. anything, the new fortuna cutter is better.
