You can check there on where to get the Warframes.
(I find the in-game trade chat gets cluttered, but being able to browse players listings on the site is much easier - even if it means waiting for the other player to complete a mission before inviting them to your clans Dojo to trade.)
Buying plat on the main Warframe website *does* help support the game, though, so is definitely worth considering - plus occasionally you can get a price discount via the daily login reward in-game. :-)
(The same place you can buy Squad health/energy boosters, Codex scanners, and MK1 weapons, via credits.)
It's not something I'd recommend without a lot of research into the frame you're looking at (I've only ever done this once myself), to avoid buyers remorse - but it *is* an option if you're feeling that you have too many dollars in your pocket.
You can unlock either of the other two starter frames fairly early in game. Other frames you may get early are Rhino (tank), Oberon (healer) etc. Limbo, and insanely powerful spellcaster that can cross into other dimensions comes fairly early too. Some come for free from quests or parts drop from enemies. Others have to be more explicitly farmed.
You can unlock about 35 frames in game, each with their individual skill set... but it takes time and effort to do it for free, so many people buy frames they are interested in using the in game real world currency. They are fairly expensive bought directly from the in game market, but most can be bought from other players who have farmed the parts much cheaper. My advice is not to buy stuff until you have played through enough of the main quest lines to understand what you are buying.
Keep playing your dude and unlock nodes in the star chart. Play with different weapons, and upgrade your stuff with mods in the arsenal. It will all become clear over the next hundred hours or so of gameplay.
I'm also an all in collector when it comes to games, so please take my advice and don't go too crazy buying stuff when you start out in warframe. Farming content is the game in warframe, and it forces you to make do with what you have rather than always having the optimal build for any situation. Take it at your own pace until you get a better understanding of what is worth buying
... and join a clan at some point. Clans can research some of the most interesting warframes in game so you can build them yourself. You'll have five or six frames before you know it. :)
Similarly, the 'Helios' type robotic companion sentinel is also only available by either buying with plat (No), or getting the blueprint from a clan dojo once they've unlocked it (Yes).
Out of curiosity, CuddleTauren, which warframe did you pick at the start?
