What counts as a "bad capture" in Fortuna hunting?

Every time I capture something it says it's a "bad capture", guess I won't know what that means till the community has more time with it?

It's the "Distance to Target" you see in your Tranq Gun and other Sniperrifle scopes. Above 100m it's a good capture. A perfect catch is maybe at 200m or above, couldn't get a shot that far yet. On a side note, the Tranq gun is not your only options. Ivara's Sleep-Arrow also works and I guess Equinox's sleep should as well,but becomes a 'bad capture', as you are very close.

Hey man, From my own experimentation, I think it is determined by how well you match the call with the lure and not being spotted.

I got a good capture on a white vermink from 45m so its not distance

Yeah it's not distance. I stood invisible right in front of a vermink and got a good capture. So maybe it's the lure call. Or where you hit the tranq dart? Or how much track you've uncovered? Or does the System takes every action into account and dumps it into one big formula? At this point, any variable Player input could be whats measured, we don't know exactly yet. I'm gonna try with different Hitzones first.

I didn't get spotted and I didn't do anything else, yet I still got bad capture

Just read the Hotfix 24.0.2 that came out today, and guess whats in there:

"Tweaked the animal capture logic to allow for better Perfect/Good captures. Bad/Good/Perfect Captures are stressed based, which rises when the animal comes in contact with a player. A quick tranq of a non-startled animal would yield you a ‘Perfect Capture’ - so get down wind and don’t miss!"
