I've played for over 2k hours, spent $30 (cosmetics only, all of them being made by the community called "tennogen"). And made quite a few thousand plat just by playing the game normally, everything you see (except a few exclusive cosmetics) in the market/arsenal you can easily obtain yourself with some knowledge and time.

Wow, thank you for the info. if you remain f2p do you still have access to all the features of the game?
Donitsi 15 ENE 2019 a las 19:27
Yes it is. The game is only limiting your warframe and weapon options, basically how big your arsenal can be. How? You can only have 2 playable warframes and 6 different weapons in total. All players start with 50 platinum so you are able to buy 1 warframe slot more and 4 weapon slots. If you hate specific weapon or warframe you can sell it away of course to make room for new one or buy more slots with platinum.

ANYTHING that has impact on the gameplay (Weapons, pets, warframes, mods) are available for free. Only cosmetics, warframe and weapon slots cost platinum. You are able to trade platinum with other players. If you trade Prime parts or mods you will have soon have lots of platinum to own all warframes and weapons and cosmetics if you like.
This of course requires knowledge what people are looking for and for new player that takes some time. Especially if you do not have a friend to give some tips what to sell.

Yes! It only requires patients. For example, crafting weapon takes 12 or 24h to craft. Playable warframe takes 3 days.
Plan these time schedules. Time weapon crafting so that as soon as you come from work, weapon is waiting for you. Time building new warframe so that it is ready on Friday when you have whole weekend for yourself.

Nobody is willing to buy Market weapons and warframes with platinum. They're overpriced.

Yes. Nothing is hidden from you, the only thing that limits you is time investedl but even that won't hold you back for long.

The game is more of a PvE focused looter shooter that is a sandbox in a sense (NOT an actual sandbox) in where you are free to pretty much choose what goals you want to set and how you will go about doing them. The game gives you plenty of tools to work with and those being the warframes, weapons, mods, etc.

The community is friendly for the most part with people willing to help new players if you ask via recruitment chat, however there are exceptions like any other game and on the Steam forums it has devolved into pure trash for the most part with only a few threads popping up that actually discuss things without people resolving to fighting or insulting each other over petty things.

The Warframe DLC does not unlock any new content whatsoever, most of the stuff in them except the exclusive cosmetic skins can be easily farmed in game. Though, you can earn platinum for yourself later on by selling ingame items to players which isn't too hard if you use websites like warframe.market

Yes, Infact I can say with over 1500 hours played ( some paying involved for myself, but was personal choice ), the gane is %100 F2P

everythign is f2p.
it's a question of how much your time is worth vs your money. That's the main consideration when "buying" into these games

To clear up.

Your inventory of weapons and Warframes will be limited to start.

To increase that invetory space you have to spend Premium Currency ( Platinum)

---------

Now Plat (Platinum) can be purchased or traded for in game.

It is incredibly easy to earn even at only the starter planets. You wont earn 1000s but more than enough to purchase inventory space 20Plat.

It will be for a new player about 2 hours of invested time to earn enough Plat to buy another Warframe inventory slot. 20Plat.

-----

To be clear that time will also be used to level up new gear, increase your Mastery Rank and farm up materials. So its actually something you would be doing anyways.

-----
This game is truly free to play outside of very specific cosmetic items.

You will end up needing to buy things. While you can trade for real money currency, that comes with its own problems and challenges. Such as fake trades, getting your platinum revoked and thus having your account banned, for example... even if you go to all the hassel you have to go to because the Game refuses to have an ingame auction house.

You will need platinum for weapon slots, frame slots.. and weapon catalysts, which can occasionally show up in in game alerts, but are rather rare. The drop chances of the weapon catalyst from the Siege event is also rather rare. So those 3 things you gonna need platinum for.

And you can either spend money or need to jump through hoops going to the trouble of actively trading with other players via trade chat.
Stated this before in my previous posts, the only real thing you need to progress is just an orokin catalyst/reactor which DE for some reason(lucky us) gives one away like every other week, besides that the game is 100% free to play, most of the time while travelling around fortuna/cestus open world and doing quests I often ask myself "why is this game free" lot of value here, I spent a little bit of money because I couldnt stand how some characters LOOK

Be warned though its really grindy sometimes other times you can get lucky

If you're a fan of Co-Operative or PvE games like this one, of course.
reptiliane 15 ENE 2019 a las 22:54
It's a freemium game. A small portion of the player base is milked dry while the major part are leeches claiming the game is totally free.

The only thing you're not able to get without paying is Tennogen cosmetics. They're made by the community and the money from people buying them is split between DE and the authors, that's why they aren't available for plat.

This dude makes trading sound so evil , don't take what he says to heart . trading is as simple as 1 message ,an invite , a trade window and a "thnks bye" - there are no hoops involved . (hes clearly biased because hes fixated on some kind of unnecessary in-game auction house thats been turned down many times) the problem he lists about fake plat exists but is rare especially on lower quantity plat trades so don't let that comment deter you either .

You don't need to spend money nor will you ever need to unless you decide you WANT to but that's obviously a different question entirely .

Im sure you get the point though
