How do you get the outside of your ship gold?

I see orbiters with all gold, or gold parts, is there a metallic color pallete or something? How do you get that color? It's not just orange, it's gold, metallic and everything

While in your ship, hit Escape, Equipment, Landing Craft, Customize Landing Craft.

Depending on your ship and its equipped skin, it may have shiny parts to color, or it may not. Get one that's shiny, and color it as you'd like, including gold.
Platinum-free ship skins include the Prisma skins that may sometimes be brought bi-weekly by Baro Ki'Teer, the Void Trader. I believe he's made Prisma skins for all existing ship types. Those skins cover the majority of the ship in colorable shiny metal with a nice sheen to it.

Probably using the Prisma skin for the ship, gives it a shiny look.

There is no painting ships. Instead there are skins for them. Each lading craft has 3-5 extra skins.
Some are sold by Baro'ki'ter.
Wikia knows most of the answears.

Except you're wrong. You can "Paint" skins.

That little dot infront is your landing craft that doubles as a detachable bridge

You can paint and place skins on your landing craft but you can only paint the inside of the orbiter.

Anything past the ramp is the oribiter

I'm using the skin Baro Ki'teer just recently sold for the starting ship and it has some gold plating on it, certain skins will have pieces that look metalic with certain colours.
