If you want to level a weapon, e.g. a boltor prime from unranked to 30, just empty one of your other weapons slots (melee or secoundary) and pick a decent weapn you can use in rough situations.
If you are doing mission in public games on a level you can do with that gun, and if an other person is killing an enemy, as less weapons you have equipped, as more XP will b distributed for that weapon from the kill of the other player.
But if you have a friend with a good build, ask that person to go into a survival mission with you, bring only that one weapon with you and let him kill everything what you can't (but you shouldn't use anything other than the weapon you want to level)
I have a Boltor prime and it's a very good status weapon.
Boltor prime is a good weapon, just not meant for end game. Also end game is more like MR 15+. You are still MR7 that's still early game. Early game is like MR 1-12, MR 13-20 is mid game, MR 21-25 is end game. This is just an average since it depends on what content you unlocked via quests. MR is based on gear you have maxed, while it is true you can just stick to getting the stuff you want and skipping others.
Soma Prime... maybe it's because I don't yet have Argon Scope, but I've never been able to make it work past level 50 enemies. Its base damage is just too piddly, even with all the crit and crit damage I can manage, and its low status chance means it gets stuffed by armor unless I run Hunter Munitions, which doesn't work great because of the Soma Prime's low damage. Low damage per shot = weak slash procs when Hunter Munitions works.
If I want an assault rifle, I typically run Boltor Prime, but generally I opt for shotguns. Vaykor Hek and Tigris Prime are perennial favorites, but I have to give props to the Kohm for combining the best elements of the Gorgon and the Boar into one weapon. Kohm's my favorite weapon to run on Nekros Prime due to its high status chance, rapid fire rate, and slash-focused damage layout. Bit of an ammo-hog though.
As far as the Plains go, the most important things to get from the Plains are unlocking the Quills so that you can start seriously working on your Focus trees, getting Eidolon Shards so that you can unlock waybound focus abilities to improve your Operator, and getting lenses from bounties so that you can actually gain focus in the first place.
It's actually about how you mod them that's going to matter.
These MR ratings your posting are utter crap lol. There isnt a single solitary thing past MR 15 other then maybe 1 or 2 good rivens that would keep you out of end game stuff. Im MR14 and doing tridolon/sortie/ESO daily not really sure what the heck your calling end game but you clearly dont need anything higher then 15 to reach it and can even be done before that.
Braton Prime is very good too, people think that base DPS is everything.... Braton Prime deals A LOT of slash procs that increase that DPS significantly as slash stacks. Pair it with Viral or Corrosive and you will melt any high level targets... status is the way to go, like on Soma Prime you wanna put in Hunter Munitions to make it sing in high level combat (which also helps ammo-econ as you spend less per target
Both weapons are well worth building, maybe Soma Prime first and then Braton Prime.
