What's with heads in Fortuna?
Like, I get the idea of renting body parts - but what do they do with their original heads? Shelve them somewhere? Why?

Im more worried about everyone gushing over that horrible song in the intro. Trying to evoke the feeling of a chain gang in the year 30k but with toaster heads is pretty........interesting?

It's a working song, something to hum/sing while you work to keep Morale up etc.

I quite like it personally, it does sound like something I'd sing at work

Probably something to take their mind off the fact they are slaves?
As far as I know brain shelving and robotic head are not the same, brain shelving is a punishment, meanwhile robotic head might be a way to get a bit of debt off by selling your head(lmao)
Limbs are, well, if you've been working out or doing physical labor you know that by hammering stuff your arms get tired, by lifting stuff your back might be in pain after some time, so they get augmentations so they can work without these problems.
you guys are missing something, Eudico says that Thursby dosnt have any augments buut evryoen remmber his head? im starting to egt the feeling that they are techno organic hybrids inthe first place , i mean weve seen weirder

Pretty much this. Nothing else makes sense. Whatever lore excuse for removing people's heads and replacing them with crude robotic implants is just over the top edgy trash. If the Corpus have the tech to peform head transplants at will and for cheap, then they wouldn't even need humanoid workers. They'll just get robots to do it.
Actually, one of cephalon fragments mentions Crewman are mass-produced in some way. Maybe they aren't entirely human themselves.
Purpose bred. No further explanation but that just implies they're like cattle.

The simple answer is that DE accepted the fact that they are just not that good at modeling faces (Konzu claims Vey Hek has "a face like a rejected skin graft", completely oblivious to the fact that his own looks like a dog's butt after it's been stung repeatedly by hornets), and wisely decided to do as little of that as possible this time around.

Nef threatened to replace all of the Solaris with MOAs, remember? But most Corpus robotics are pretty ♥♥♥♥ at anything that isn't killing.

They take off the heads first to dehumanize and demoralize them. Faces are unique and recognizable. You cover it up or take it away, and you'll look like just another emotionless cog in the Corpus machine.

Alot of this, turn a person into a machine and you can treat them like a machine. Give them a body that is mostly on loan and they will do what ever you ask since you can simply take back the Rig provided, such as Legs story in the initial fortuna quest.

that and devs cant make good heads... cetus

The one thing people forget about Cetus population is this is Humanity 10000 or more years in the future. The people from Cetus to me look like a sort of future human a mix of all races, Asian, White, Black etc... although you can also look at where Cetus is situated on teh planet how they look kinda makes sense.

The entire Foruna storyline reminds me greatly of two piece of science fiction:

1) Lexx. In the Lexx universe people routinely have to give up body parts to pay debts or as punishment for wrongdoing. Also lots of beefy men with robot heads and human/cybernetic stuff. A great, under-rated series.

2) Doctor Who (classic) episode The Sunmakers. An episode about a corrupt, greedy government on Pluto that repeatedly puts people into horrible debt from which they can never recover. Keeping them slaves to the system.

I wonder if either (or both) of these inspired the story.

One of my favorite quotes from all of Doctor Who is in that epiosde.. with the Collector berating an underling regarding his leadership.

"Laxity, Hade, laxity and weakness. You have shown them too much kindness. A grave error of judgment. Grinding oppression of the masses is the only policy that pays dividends. "

He would have made a fine Corpus official.
