Neither trick makes it preferable to any other companion I can think of. Even a smeeta gets extra survivability from its decoy. Moas and sentinels have more utility.
Things might be different if draining bite healed the frame as well, especially if it stacked with hunter recovery.
There is no any other point.
Yeah, I like their design a lot, but sadly their actual usability just doesn't feel up to snuff.
No point in any pet other than smeeta kavats.
I did get the Vasca, maxed it, sure, okay... dunoo, I do not die as much, so guess Vasca is cool if yo use Banshee? Dunno, seems like a swing and a miss, biggest pain the the ♥♥♥♥ is pets and sentiniels being potato and getting killed when anything above lvl 60 farts in their vicinity - so why would I like a companion that's gonna die all the time to have an a option to rescue me?
Do not think making your companions a hassle is a good design choice DE is going with, if you do not want your companion to be a hassle you take Inaros, Grendel, Atlas or anything with crapton of HP and Armor, or like Hildryn for different build, but the point is any build where Vasca may help to pick you up - you will end up picking her up way more.
And on top of that design choice they keep functionality like Vacuum with them so you just get flat out punished for playing the game and in some cases with specific builds that rely on some functionalities of your companions like maybe Synth modset with Health Conversion - your entire build can suffer because of you using a companion as a part of it.
No wonder no one relies on companions and there are no signs DE has any intentions to address the hassle companions bring.
I know Djinn exists, nice, you made ONE of them not be a pain in the ♥♥♥♥.
My suggestion is simple give us a gear item to respawn our dead companions, just like we call support. Fixing Ai and making it feel like this game is not from 90's on that aspect may be a stretch, but I'd still love to have some control over companions, so stances for them that add unique abilities on demand? Hell, leave Ai in the 90's, just gimme stances for pets, MOA's have personalities and my cat doesn't?
I feel like DE is at the point where companion system is SOOOOOOO outdated with the rest of the game and it just barely follows it and contributes very little apart from some passive buffs that are terribly unreliable. So before going any further with companion system I'd like them to take a step back and question what they want to do with companions, because after pets were introduced they were barely changed and gaming industry has evolved and gave us amazing companion designs that do not suck and make your life a misery as well as they do not break the game.
Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, MGS TPP are good examples, Elizabeth does not stand in your way and is there when you need her, same goes for Ellie and they can look out for them selves, they are not a hassle. In TPP D-Dog has amazing functionalities on demand, all companions there do stuff on demand which feels like companionship. Your relationship with each companion there unlocks cool actions you can do.
TPP nailed it for companions and spectrum of them and I feel like even tho game is from 2015 DE could take notes from it. They do praise Kojima so I kinda expected they would but they do seem to prefer reviving pets and having no sentiniels on any longer run.
Quiet can break the game there but some of her functionalities can be carried over (I already hear weebs yelling "the shower scene, the shower scene")
Gameplay of Warframe did not struck me as "each tenno needs a Kubrow next to it" or whatever we were told in that doggo quest, in reality it is quite far away from that claim just because of the hassle of them being bad, weak link, not interactive in combat apart from frequent reviving (to compensate lack of any other interactions?) and just.... well, who would pick such companion?
In Warframe companions are just pixels that run around and die for no obvious reason but stupidity. No personality, no control over them, petting them in ship as "interaction" is as far as it goes.
Drain Bite is the worst survivability ability of the three Kavats, as avoiding damage is more reliable than healing from DOING damage (That's why armor is a thing), and Adarza's Reflect / Smeeta's Mischief are superior in avoiding damage. The only thing Vasca has going for it is the ability to get the player up from a downed state, which COULD be worth running Vasca just by itself because that's a really strong ability for solo play, EXCEPT that even at max rank its a full two minute cooldown. I feel like DE overdid it for the drawback to Transfusion, getting revived isn't nearly strong enough to warrant it only being possible every two minutes. It's so easy to just let allies revive you too since Operator revive can't be interrupted by enemies. You could put on stuff like Hunter Recovery to make Vasca a healing ally, but then why not just put that mod on Smeeta and have healing AND Charm at the same time? Transfusion also doesn't work during Arbitrations, and honestly that ALONE might have made Vasca worth using (If Arbitrations had any rewards worth playing for ffs).
All in all, it was an interest concept, but poorly executed (Much like Oxylus when Fortuna released) and doesn't hold a candle to Smeeta or a decent Sentinel with Guardian, Shield Charger and Medi-Ray.
the vampire skill is pretty useless when hunter recovery and pack leader does the same thing.
heck, they even put a hidden 2 minutes cooldown on vasca kavat revive
