Is Helios a good companion?
I'm planning to buy Helios Prime but I saw some comments on it draining so much scanner.
Yes, I did see people recommend on buying Sol-Battery Widget but I don't have that much standing point to buy it.

It will use lots of scanners but it's worth it for the Simulacrum.

That would drain me so much credit for a single mission.

Helios is good for a lot more than merely scanning. Its weapon, Deconstructor, is one of the best Sentinel weapons in the game, since it's naturally silent and counts as a melee attack, gaining bonus damage against blinded or unaware enemies. Its mods allow it to create weak spots (similar to Banshee's sonar ability) on enemies that it has fully scanned.

If you want standing for the Sol-Battery Widget, do Simaris's daily synthesis task every day. The syntheses and bonus standing for completion will give you anywhere from 8-15k standing a day. Scanner's aren't too expensive, at 5k credits for 10 of them. Just use a 'frame that can stun synthesis targets for performing synthesis, and you can save money on buying kinetic siphon traps.

Get Simaris Scanner upgrade that will let you scan infinitely. Helios can use it so you don't have to worry about buying another scanner later on.

Farm the standing to get it.

Ah yes, apologies then, I didn't read the OP, I just skimmed it.

It only scans until the codex is full for the target. I use Helios Prime as my companion and now that I have a codex that's almost full it's kind of nice when I hear it scan something (because it's something I don't have and would have missed).

Although yes, unless you've been scaning everything you've seen until the codex is full it will be heavy on the scanning. I'd buy about 400 and just keep an eye on how many you have after a few missions.

It's the only Sentinel asides from the Carrier that I think is worth using. If you use the Detect Vulnerability mod, it's like having a pocket Banshee highlighting crit spots for you.

What? Why? The scanners are so freaking cheap that this shouldn't be an issue.
25 scanner costs 500 credit. Buy 20packs which is 500 scanners. It will last for days and costs only 10 000credit.
And Helios isn't scanning everything. For example it won't scan flowers, plants, special units or bosses ect.
But i use only Helios tbh.
And sometimes my little kitty kitty

Helios Prime is best Companion.

I just bought 4000-ish scanners one day and never worried about it again.

Actually it will, until the it reaches the amount of scans needed to complete the entry.

If it has an entry and needs one or more scans, Helios will scan it.

(Kind of wish Helios would scan plants even when entry is full, would make some things easier).

Does nobody realize that when you buy the Sol-Battery Widget you can use the Synthesis Scanner infinitely to scan absolutely everything, Codex or Simaris related, without cost?

It also means the Helios will use its pocket-Banshee Detect Weakness ability on anything, once you have the Mod, without cost.

And even if its Codex related, you still get bonus Simaris reputation for scanning those damn plants to collect them? Or anything else for that matter.

I havent had to buy a single Scanner charge since like my 10th hour of playtime.

I've never used a Kinetic Siphon trap either. You can easily scan any and all Synthesis targets without it. The further upgrades, like double-scan, only make it easier.

Credits may be easy to get en-masse, but that is no reason to waste them on Scanners when a free, infinite option is right there.

If an enemy is missing scans from your codex, Helios will scan that enemy type once every time it appears. He cannot scan an enemy if he's already scanned that specific enemy already.

Example: you need Bombard scans. You encounter one bombard, Helios scans it. Helios won't scan it again. You encounter a second bombard, Helios scans it. Helios won't scan either of the two previous bombards again. You now have complete Bombard scans - Helios stops scanning Bombards altogether.
