Anything you craft or buy with platinum starts at 0. Where you level them up is up to you. Like I said before, make sure they reach level 30 to increase your mastery rank. NOTE: Rebuilding the same weapon, warframe or companion will not give more mastery rank. They give it only once so you have to craft new ones. If you can't remember what stuff you have leveled up to 30, go to Codex console (Opposite to Market console). There you can see what weapon, warframe or companion has reached level 30 already (marked with a star) or blueline beneath them which indicates level progress so far.
ctrl + jump + roll. That's how you move fast. It takes some time before your reaction times and eyes catch up and improve.
There are no Common, Uncommon and Rare of the same mod. Vitality is Common (Bronze) mod but there isn't Uncommon or Rare that would be even better. So invest Endo on Vitality if it feels like you're dying a lot. Sell duplicates or turn them into endo.
When it says 5-15 on a mission, that's level of the enemies. As for Earth, you were in open world, Plains Of Eidolon, the deeper in the map you go, the higher level enemies you meet. In endless missions like Defense, Survival and Excavation enemies start at the level that is shown in the navigation map but their level will increase endlessly as you continue fighting.
@Donitski, thank you! That helps a lot. I won't worry about mods now and start investing in the ones I like. I'll try not to sell anything before I get it to rank 30, and then bank it.
I get that the open world has different levels the further you go, but it's like the quest enemies were 20+, maybe I just ran into the wrong area or something, no big deal.
Thanks and any random tips are appreciated.
Once you reach Mastery 4, buy and craft the Hek - its a shotgun that without formas/potatos (but the right mods) can already deal with lv.70-80ish enemies with ease.
Beyond that, there are some really good early frames you can grab - like Rhino, which i recommend doing once you hit lv.30 on your starting frame, even if just for mastery exp.
Google "Warframe builder" and there you will find a bunch of builds for literally every single weapon/frame in the game. Most you won't be able to build since you don't have the mods for it, but at least you can start finding out what-drops-where on a "what do i need" basis.
Also, do quests, don't ignore them. Specially "The Second Dream", as it unlocks a portion of content you're otherwise excluded from.
Regarding mods, like the other guy pointed out, invest in Vitality and Redirection - they are pretty basic and pretty good. Damage mods like Cryo Rounds are also pretty good, since dead people don't shoot. Most of the good stuff (like serration/split Chamber/etc.) you won't see for a while.
Search for Warframe codes, and you'll find a bunch of free ♥♥♥♥ (glyphs specially, but FREESWORD gives you a Heat Sword with a "potato"). You can get a nice cape if you link your Twitch to the warframe account.
Ah, one last thing - open that starchart.
Hit me up if you need to know anything!
Happy Hunting! :3

Don't sell mods, convert them into endo because endo is harder to get than credits and you will need a ton of both to upgrade mods.
Safe mods to upgrade are those giving you more hp, more shield (if you play a warframe with good shields, more armor (if you play a warframe with little or no shield) and more damage.
Don't upgrade + puncture/slash/impact mods, they are useless except for very specific builds.
Still not sure what mod to upgrade ? Go here :
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Warframes
Choose a warframe that looks cool then go look for a build on youtube to figure out if you like the warframe's gameplay and to know how to mod it.
Invest all you can into this warframe (forma, orokin reactor, upgraded mods) to have your first strong warframe that will allow you to be efficient, thus making you progress faster.
Excalibur is a great Warframe, you can keep it until you choose a warframe that you really like then farm for it (except if you choose Excalibur as your first strong warframe of course).
Don't worry if it's a prime warframe that caught your eye, either farm for the parts or buy them with platinum.
You can earn platinum by opening relics in void fissure missions then selling the loot you don't need.
I highly recommend to use https://warframe.market/ to figure out the price you can get from each item you wanna sell.
Don't bother with leveling a lot of stuff early on, focus on unlocking planets at least until you are at Jupiter. Once Jupiter is unlocked you have access to most crafting materials and can build most warframes. Then you can farm for the warframe you choose (if it's not Excalibur) and mod it.
If you wanna level up gears fast, Helene (Defense) on Jupiter is a great spot.
If you want quick credits, great spots aren't really available until you unlock Eris (the planet before the last unlockable one) which will take you some time, but until then you shouldn't need a lot of credits if you only buy what you need.
Then I recommend Akkad (Defense), leave after wave 5, rinse and repeat -> 25k credits per 5 min.
If you wanna farm low tier relics (lith) to sell the loot for platinum, I recommend excavation missions and find the frozen map of Corpus ones easier to navigate (i.e Kiliken on Venus)
Here is how I started :
- Excalibur with Boltor and Skana (don't hesitate to spam exalted blade, it deals a lot of damage and is more energy efficient than your other abilities) until Jupiter
- farmed Jupiter's boss to get the Valkyr warframe
- chose prime weapons for my Valkyr (akstiletto and venka)
- farmed lith relics on Kiliken, sold every duplicate for platinum
- got enough platinum to buy the components of Valkyr Prime and of the prime weapons
- crafted and leveled up gear on Helene (sold every lvl 30 gear to free up space) to get enough MR to equip the prime weapons
- rolled on the rest of the star chart with an efficient Valkyr Prime
- chose another warframe I found interesting
- currently working on this warframe and it's weapons, which is enjoyable and relatively fast thanks to the efficient Valkyr Prime
Two last tips :
- if you wanna play a melee warframe (i.e Wukong or Valkyr) and/or a tanky one (i.e Valkyr or Inaros) get Hunter Adrenaline and Life Strike. With these two mods you recover energy while loosing health and recover health with melee attacks while channeling (when your weapon glows and uses energy with each strike, left click by default, I recommend to switch on channeling toggle in your options)
This way you can take head on groups of enemies and survive in a lot of situations.
- beware of blueprints you get from junctions between planets and from quests, a lot of them (i.e Ether Dagger or Chroma warframe) CANNOT be found anywhere else, so if you sell the blueprint or the item you won't be able to reobtain it later on this account.
Feel free to add me ingame (TheophanyFR) if you have any question or want help with a mission.
Have fun and welcome, Tenno ! :)

I cannot express how valuable the warframe market is man
★ Use the 50 starting platinum to get warframe/weapon slots as this will let you hold more weapons and warframes respectively. This is always recommended as a new player so that you can acquire more weapons/warframes and be able to have room for them
★ Set goals for yourself even if they seem impossible and work towards them with adding smaller goals to accomplish in between that large goal
★ DLCs for Warframe are more of a "starter pack" thing they DO NOT unlock any new content in any shape or form, but everything in it can be easily farmed ingame if you are patient enough. However, if you wish to purchase platinum to also support the developers then it is advised for you to wait for a 75% discount from daily login then purchase platinum that way since you get a lot more out of your money that way
★ Pretty much most things (including Warframes) can be farmed ingame by either Clan Research, purchasing blueprints on the Market for credits, various drops from different sources (bosses, enemies, etc), or syndicates. This way you do not have to use platinum to buy them, though no one really buys Warframes or Weapons in the Market for platinum anyways when they can farm them ingame
★ Rank things to 30 before selling them and be sure to try out new weapons/warframes to get an idea of what you may like, also make sure to check if the weapon can be used to make another weapon: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons_Required_as_Crafting_Ingredients
★ Start getting familiar with the movement and parkour mechanics, as they are useful to do and also help in surviving or preventing things like getting knocked down/taking less damage. Learning this early is better than having to learn it late in the game: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Movement#Sprinting
★ Joining a new player friendly clan is advised. Not only do clans offer new friends to potentially meet, but they also offer various clantech research that you can get the blueprints of if they have researched it via credits to be able to craft that said item/warframe/weapon for yourself
★ Weapons/Warframes are basically the foundation of what you'll be building upon. Mods are used to build upon that foundation and they can be upgraded and come in many forms. Always look out for them and always keep one mod of the same type (you can choose to sell duplicates if you wish). Knowing what the different types of damages do and how to mod for them is good to know: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0
Quite a lot of Weapons and Warframes are indeed viable regardless of what people will tell you about them. Each of them have their own things they excel in, some excel better than others in certain departments.
★ In certain mission types such as survival, as a new player DO NOT run around and use all of the life support capsules because that is a waste for you & everyone else and it is annoying (might be considered trolling to some people). Life support capsules are something that you use when your life support is low below 40% or so and using them early is just a major waste
★ Early on for new/returning players it's alot better to do Dark Sector missions which are always against Infested enemies to get Credits and Affinity (experience), however you will need to join a clan before being able to play on one of them: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Sector
★ Get to Mastery Rank 2 so you can start trading by selling stuff on https://warframe.market/ to earn platinum for yourself but keep in mind only certain things are tradeable. Resources and normal warframes/weapons are NOT tradeable. Learn what can be traded here: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Trading
While warframe.market isn't the ONLY way to trade it is a lot more easier to use for newer players who wish to get into trading and the prices are always changing due to supply & demand, sometimes the prices on here will VARY from trade chat (but Trade Chat prices ARE NOT set in stone either)
★ You can mark things such as mods or resources with 'G' or mark a specific point of interest that you would wish for people to check out. For instance if you see a green line thing where an enemy or group of enemies were at then you can use 'G' to mark that specific resource for people to come pick up
★ You can assign items to your Gear Wheel then using 'Q' (default key) to open your Gear Wheel then selecting which item you wish to use, this is useful since you will eventually use those slots for various consumables or scanners
★ Don't worry about the 'meta' just use whatever you like and try experimenting with things. You don't even need specialized builds for warframes or weapons until after you finish the Star Chart anyways
★ If you need anything in particular such as a resource then feel free to ask in recruitment chat because there are people that are willing to help you by taxi'ing you to that planet (taxi meaning that you or they join the same squad then they select a mission node on a planet)
★ You can use a Forma to add another polarity to your weapon/warframe/etc when you put a mod in the same polarity (symbol) slot it will cut that mods cost in half, however when you use a Forma on something it will reset that items rank back to unranked then you have to level it to 30 again. Having multiple Forma on an item means you'll be able to place make use of your mod capacity on that item better: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Polarization
★ Reactors (for your Warframes/Sentinels/Companions) or Catalysts (for your Weapons) are used to double your Mod Capacity on whatever item you're using them on but generally for new players it isn't advised to use them until you have found something that you really like or plan to use for a long time. There are sometimes various alerts or invasion missions to be able to get these without having to pay anything, also might come as a sortie reward depending on your RNG
★ You can use Endo ( http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Endo ) to upgrade your mods. Endo is dropped by enemies, can be a mission/bounty reward, sortie reward, coverting duplicate/excess mods to endo, and you can also covert Ayatan Sculptures into Endo at Maroo's Bazaar at Mars
★ Complete the starting story quests to be able to get most of the functionality for your ship (various other things may become unlocked as you finish certain story quests or other methods)
★ Completing all of the planet nodes will allow for you to do Nightmare Missions which are missions that have modifiers but you will get a random Nightmare mod when you complete them. Farming nightmare mods is quite handy and a lot of them are used often and you can even sell them for platinum to people (recommended to use something like https://warframe.market/ to do so)
★ Do Junctions in order to advance to new planets to be able to fight new bosses which drop Warframe parts (some warframes can come from clantech research or other methods like story quests). Junctions give you rewards from story quests to various blueprints to help you ease into the game more and they also reward you with some Mastery XP
★ Once you have completed all of the star chart then you can look into doing whatever you want and exploring the game much further indepth, such as focusing on more specialized builds for your frames/weapons/etc or whatever you want really
★ After completing the star chart then you can use some of the following to get what you need: Akkad (Eris) / Hydron (Sedna) / Bere (Sedna) / Helene (Saturn) / Io (Jupiter) for Affinity farming and the Index for Credit farming (recommended to do Medium Risk since it gives 135k credits and you can use a Credit Booster to double your reward)

(Keep in mind since a certain patch that some Warframes have switched locations farming wise with Excalibur being on Mars, Trinity on Pluto, and Frost being on Ceres)
@Theophany I may take you up on that chance to add you for help, I'm particularly looking for trade help right now, as in what's the best way to go about it. I checked the warframe market. Take for example Saryn Prime, if I wanted that, I see it for 200 plat, do I just contact the player in game, and arrange to meet them somewhere? Is the transaction protected that way from scams etc?
Step 1) Panic. Not Really. HA Got EM
Step 2) Just progress thru the solar system at your own pace from the beginning, aiming for whatever attracts your attention. This is the best way to progress and not burn out from the sheer amount of content to experience and grind for. Warframe just got a major overhaul in SotR update that makes it a lot easier for beginners and gives a directional approach to the game. The Star Chart (the interconnected web of planets accessed thru navigation) is completed like a roadmap, and there is no wrong way to do it. Nodes are locations we access missions, and a white path connects them all. Uncompleted but available nodes will flash blue, incomplete but unavailable nodes will be black with a lock symbol, and nodes you have cleared will be white. The purpose of clearing the star chart is simply to have all locations available to you for farming what you need and events/special missions that appear every day.
Step 3) Find a favorite warframe youtuber to watch to learn game mechanics and keep on top of game changes. I'll give a shout out to my absolute fav, Tactical Potato
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHAenboNPQJmNQmvQDQibQA
who has set up a series of videos for New to Warframe Players
I'm New What Next? (Beginner's Guide)
Top Steam Warframe Guide: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=453366331
In addition, visit the wiki, http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/WARFRAME_Wiki for indepth knowledge on anything you could possibly think of.
Step 4) Warframe is a co-op game and is a lot more enjoyable with friends. Although soloable to a point, 99 percent of players agree it's better with people, so find a clan you like or get friends into the game and start your own. I know a lot of people that have their neighbors and family all play together.
Q&A>
Earliest Frame> Rhino available on Venus boss fight. 80 percent of non prime frames are looted from planetary boss fights. 10 percent of frames are quest only frames, and the last 10 percent drop from enemies/mission caches or are clan tech. The next available frame will be Hydroid on Earth, but his boss fight is a pain and not for beginners. Rhino is a decent mid tier tank, just remember that when you get into higher tiers that his survivability drops. Alot of players get used to face tanking with him in low tiers and can't understand when they start dying in upper tiers because they are still face tanking and that isn't going to cut it. Next frame will be Frost on Mars, He is a VERY fun caster based frame, very powerful and highly requested defense frame. You may need some help with this boss though as he has a small hitbox on his back, has periods of invulnerability and is a high dps boss.
Weapons and Frames to aim for>

How do I continue the Story>
Warframe story is spread out, a lot. A Lot of it is mixed in with everyday missions. But the best way is to progress thru the star chart, and as you clear junctions, certain ones will give you quests. These quests reveal a lot of Lore and are revealed in the order they need to be.
Is this truly f2p or is it p2w?>
Warframe has the best f2p model I have ever seen. 80 percent of content is free, 10 percent is retired/event only, 5 percent is premium cosmetics, and 5 percent is inventory slots. In addition, premium currency and stuff that you're trying to farm and rng is just too much you can trade for on the player2player trade system.
How do I level up?
There are a couple different “levels” you need to pay attention to
Mastery Rank: This is influenced by new affinity you earn, and represents how far you have gotten in the game. It also dictates what gear you are allowed to use, as certain weapons are MR locked. It also gives you (your mastery rank)+ starting mod capacity on your gear
Gear level: What your weapons/warframes ect are at. Leveling these for the first time earns new affinity, which contributes to mastery rank. Each level increases your mod capacity and for warframes, unlocks abilities.
Earned affinity is shared in different ways: http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Affinity Under the shared affinity system you will earn alot more playing with other people, and thus rank faster.
Im progressing thru the star chart and meeting enemies with a higher level and i cant kill them, what gives?!?
Mods and understanding damage mechanics> Damage 2.0 and Crit Damage
Basic modding strategy> Base/Physical first, Crit Damage Second and Elemental/Status/Utility mods. All of this of course depends on the weapon you are using (high crit, high status, elemental weapon vs physical damage weapon ect) Knowing how to discern comes in time with experience and knowledge.
In Depth Version:
First: Base Damage (Hornet Strike, Serration, Pressure Point, Splt Chamber, Hells Chamber ect) and Physical Damage mods (if applicable)
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0/Puncture_Damage
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0/Slash_Damage
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0/Impact_Damage
Second: Crit Mods (if the weapon has a decent crit/the weapon is buffing an exalted weapon)
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Point_Strike (see related mods section at bottom of wiki page for other weapons versions)
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Vital_Sense (see related mods on wiki page)
Third: Elemental/Status Mods
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0
Pick whatever element you like/want to run with/is best/buffs gun (some weapons are elemental based, so using the same element in your mods will drastically increase its damage) Use dual stat elemental mods (Status+elemental damage) if the weapon has a good base status. Elementals are important because 1) they stack with your other damage types in your critical multiplier. More damage= Higher crit, and 2) elemental damage is what enemies less resistant to taking actual damage.
Fourth: Utility mods
This covers a wide range of mods from Punch thru and Reach, to weapon specific mods like Firestorm, Concealed Explosive and Combustion beam. This is based on personal preference.
As a new player, what should I invest real money into?
Most weapons in warframe can be freely obtained. Those that cant are either retired (theres very few, maybbe 5 tops) or are Prime and vaulted (which will come back on a rotation basis)
Yes there are 20, 50, and 75 percent discounts on platinum. if you want the most bang for your buck wait for a 75. a $20 purchase on a 75 percent sale can last me almost a year, but then i am a mostly free player.
If you really want to buy things in the game, first recommendation is slots, slots and more slots. The more slots you have, the more varied an arsenal you can have, and every frame/weapon fits a role/has a different playstyle. The next would be some reactors/catalysts aka potatoes, which double your mod capacity on weapons/warframes. Mods (and the knowledge on how to wield them) are where your real power comes from. A standard gun can go from meh to god mode with the right mods. ONLY use these potatoes on gear you realy really like (and not base MK gear please, no matter how you like it. get the upgraded/prime variant), as you can go thru alot of them if you just pop them on everything, and then said gear just sits in your inventory, or worse, sold and the potato is wasted. The next thing would be frames that are heavy RNG based like Ivara, Mesa and Atlas, which are locked behind HEAVY rng farming and can take months if not a year to obtain and are very good/fun to use. After that, whatever cosmetics you like/Prime access accessories pack ($50) which gives premium cosmetics and a 3 month credit/xp booster. As a new player this would definitely get you off the ground running, plus get some fancy cosmetics. (and yes, if you were to try to buy these boosters ingame, it would be more expensive)
What are clans?
Clans are the usual guild system for social interactivity in a video game, with a bit more. Each clan gets a dojo, where you build rooms and research weapons with resources to get weapons that are plat only in the market, for free. It is entirely up to you to start your own or join an existing one, but research costs do scale with clan tier, so keep it low till you have everything built/researched if you don't have active membership. At this point in Warframe, it is hard to start clans if you don't do t it with friends, as there are a lot of established clans with everything done already, which is what most people look for. If you do decide to start your own, this is my dojo floorplan to reduce confusion:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16URHgiAgP4MedeRVhurblXYkEUrhKdzux0sMKchyy_M/edit?usp=sharing
If you have questions or need help, feel free to add or message me any time. (Most) of community does not mind that you don't have the best gear in the game and don't have a problem helping out on missions and showing you the ropes, and I am included in that category
1)Use in-game trade chat with filters for what you want
2) use trading sites to find people selling what you want/looking to buy what you have. The sites are pretty self explanatory, some have website methods of contact or you can just look them up in-game.
There is no way to protect yourself from scams aside from common sense.
(Just in case you really want Saryn Prime : She is around 115plat, not 200.)
Yes you contact them ingame.
You click on the button like in this screenshot :
https://i.imgur.com/taAjLHO.png
Then you copy paste the message in warframe chat and it will PM the player.
From there, you invite him/her to your clan dojo, or he/she does, and one of you goes to the trading post to invite the other to trade.
There is no scam possible :
- both players put what they want to trade
- both player have to click the "ready to trade" button
- a button appears to accept the trade
- a popup appears to summarize what you are going to trade for what
- after 3s the "ok" button of the popup can be clicked
- done
If the other player remove or switch the item with another, the UI will warn you.
You can contact me ingame if you want a demo.
Four more things :
- as a new player you have 50 starting free plat, you CANNOT trade them with other players (to avoid players creating accounts then trading the free plat to their main account)
These free plat can only be used to buy things from the official market (slots, cosmetics...) and will be used first when you do. (i.e you have 80 plat, 50 untradable and 30 tradable, if you buy a 70p item, you have 10 tradable plat left)
- you can trade n times per day. n = 1 + your mastery rank
- on warframe market when you want a prime weapon/warframe/sentinel, sometimes the cheapest set cost more than buying the parts separetely from different players, keep that in mind
- don't hesitate to put your own buy offer on warframe market : i.e you want saryn prime chassis, the cheapest one cost 80p, but by looking at the buy offers you see that the highest buy price is 60p, so put a buy offer for 60, 55 or even 50 plat and see how it goes. If your price is reasonnable you can save some plat.
You can also get an idea of the average price on the "statistics" tab
