I recommend to play capture missions, since they are fastest in my opinion.
If you enter a mission where one of your Synthesis Targets have spawned, Cephalon Simaris will warn you at the beginning of the mission, and implore you to track your victim with your Synthesis Scanner. Equipping and looking through the Synthesis Scanner (use right mouse, just like you were aiming down sights), you will see Simaris-esque particle trails that point in various directions. Follow the directions these particle trails point, and they will eventually lead you to your Synthesis Target. Once you've arrived in the same map tile as your Synthesis Target, and have looked through your Scanner at least once, Cephalon Simaris will warn you of the Target's presence and mark it with an objective icon.
Synthesizing a Target is a complex task. Your first goal is to avoid damaging it. Synthesis Targets have a blue Eximus aura (as opposed to the orange auras most Eximus have), and are highly resistant to damage, but they can be killed. They also will typically attempt to flee from you instead of fight. Since only one Synthesis Target can appear each mission, killing the target instead of synthesizing it means you'll have to start a new mission to find a new target.
Ideally, you'll need either crowd-controlling powers that don't deal significant damage or a Kinetic Siphon Trap (purchaseable in packs of 10 from Cephalon Simaris for a modest fee in credits) to immobilize your Synthesis Target. Once the target is immobile, equip your Synthesis Scanner and look through it at the target. You can synthesize a Target without immobilizing it, but it's much more difficult, and I don't recommend it to those new to the Synthesis process.
You'll notice that there are several points on the target's body that are highlighted by large glowing orbs. Each of those spots needs to be individually scanned - hold down left click on the target point while looking through the scanner (works just like firing a continuous weapon while aiming down sights) until it disappears. Damage or movement may interrupt your scan, which will require you to start again on that point. Once all of the points have been scanned, the target will vaporize and you will receive credit for its synthesis.
The target, of course, is not going to sit idly by and just allow you to synthesize it. Once you've scanned the first target point on the Synthesis Target's body, the Synthesis Target will begin displaying a unique Eximus ability that is not found on normal Eximus enemies. This can range from creating piles of electrified goo to creating fields of magnetic dust behind them while fleeing, to turning temporarily invisible. Many crowd control abilities will fail on an 'activated' Synthesis Target as well, making Kinetic Siphon traps far more useful for holding them still.
Once you've successfully synthesized the target, you'll recieve Cephalon Simaris standing, and once you've successfully synthesized the required number of targets, you can return to Cephalon Simaris and turn in the mission for additional standing and an Endo reward.
Note that only Synthesis Scanners can Synthesize a target. Codex Scanners cannot. Obtain the Sol-Battery Widget from Cephalon Simaris, and your Synthesis Scanner will have unlimited charges, which in turn will save you a lot of credits having to purchase Synthesis Scanner refills from Simaris. Obtain the Vector-Thread Widget next, as that will give you faster scanning speed, and make it easier to get multiple scans on a Target in the space of one Kinetic Siphon Trap.
So, I do understand the process of synthesis, already, but the thing I didn't really quite understand was the daily quest.
So, the daily quest is basically exactly like the regular targets?
Move to a grineer tileset and have a random chance of a synthesis seeker to spawn?
Pretty much yeah. Normal targets are there for you to passively earn standing on and unlock lore entries in Simaris's Sanctuary. Daily quest targets are there to earn lots of juicy Simaris standing at a time, and get some endo on the side.
Kinda like the daily missions for your other syndicates, really.
Also, sorry if I was a bit long-winded, and if I came across as insulting your intelligence. Wasn't my attention, but you did say 'idiot-proof.'
