Bear in mind that all forms of energy regen are disabled while using a channeled Warframe ability (such as Ember's World on Fire or Excalibur's Exalted Blade) or under the effects of the aura produced by an Energy Leech Eximus or Parasitic Eximus enemy.
If you're still not noticing any regen after picking up an orb, check to make sure the ability is actually enabled in your Focus tree (indicated by the node being outlined red rather than black) and that Zenurik is your current primary Focus school.
2) Make sure the node you want is active
For zenurik specifically:
1) make sure you aren't using channeled abilities
2) the energy bonus from energy pulse is restored over time, not instantly
all checks out except the ability enabled - i'm fairly certain the outline was black last time i popped over. will verify.
just out of curiosity, what would be the point of disabling these? is there some sort of trade-off mechanic?
Each school has a limited amount of capacity (which can be upgraded).
Each node uses some of that capacity based on it's rank (For example, Energy Pulse may use 1 capacity when you first get it but when you upgrade it a couple times it'll go up to 4 capacity points).
there are also several passives in the focus trees that alter how some of your operator abilities function and increase their costs. disabling them lets you use the abilities normally again (EG: disabling Void static will no longer make void mode tickle sentry regulators in spy missions and removes the additional energy cost)
also, dont worry about "being a thicko". there was a time when i was heartbroken when i realized i had to choose between (old) zenurik energy regen and (old) naramon shadowstep.
