Baza vs Soma
I got the baza a while ago and put 3 forma and a catalyst into it, it performs very well and is turning into one of my favorite and best performing weapons. But I want to ask, is the soma better? (not prime) because I don’t know if I should just level it for mastery or try to put some work into like I did with the baza. I ask because people talk so much about the soma and not the baza. The stats are not enough for me to able to really say which would be better.

I would propably lean toward Soma but it's slightly better than Baza. Fortunately I've got Baza Riven that makes it a killing machine and Baza feels more comfortable anyway. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1398501671

Soma compared to Baza:
+4% higher critical chance
+20 bigger magazine size
+No damage falloff
+2 V polarities

-4 less physical damage
-3s reload time while Baza has 1.4s.
-Isn't silent

Use Soma for MR fodder since you have worked a lot for Baza but don't get rid of Soma Prime if you get it. You might like it.

From messing around on the warframe builder site, (under perfect conditions) the Baza seems to be better than the Soma, but slightly worse than Soma Prime, and that's really only because Soma Prime has such a massive magazine that your sustained dps doesn't suffer as much from the longer reloads. The Baza also has a slightly lower crit chance, but slightly higher status chance.

In normal fights, enemies can show up at many ranges, including those that are beyond the Baza's comfort zone, meaning up to 50% reduced damage that the Somas don't suffer from. I think the damage dropoff is a major sticking point for some players, as it means one more thing to worry about when min/maxing their gear.

Overall, the Baza is a strong weapon; one that won't leave you wanting even in high-end content. If you feel comfortable with its playstyle, then you should absolutely keep it. As Donitsi said, pick up the Soma for mastery, and the Soma Prime to keep.

A bonus thought to keep in mind, the Baza's riven disposition (on the wiki) is 3/5, while the Somas' are 1/5. Find a riven for it, and it should serve you well.

as someone with over 90 hours on baza (hunter hunit/viral build with twin crit riven) i must say it feels good and honestly at ranges where falloff comes to effect the soma hurts from the spread it is funny how ppl ignore the spread factor.

baza can easy hit 37-38/40 shots at 60-70m where the soma strugles to hit 40/60 shots at same range with this in mind the 50% dmg reduction feels more like 20-30% and then you add the fact there is no recoil so headshots become easyer and well i find with around 50 hours on soma prime and as said 90 hours or so on baza (goes up very fast since it is my primary weapon of choice) baza dont feel weaker at all but more like a side grade.

baza is a dream for a gun and run style and due to high fire rate you dont need to stop long to gain that deadeye accuracy for long range shots (when that rare case comes up) as such it is a blast in most cases.

soma on other hand got 1 main selling point and that is the mag size it can reach 100+ shots with ease someting that make it beter for sustained fire vs many targets so in cases such as defence missions i would give it the edge but when you are on more mobile missions the low reload on baza means you always for ammo ready where as reloading soma might be a bad choice since you dont know when you see the next enemy.

in short...
baza wins for active high mobility situations
soma wins in standoffs and defence situations

all in all both are top end guns that can make a lvl 100+ enemy cry if modded right

Baza is better:
- Silent
- Basicly the same damage output
- Pinpoint Accurate
- Fast Reload
- Perfect Primary for Ivara
