LORE: What happened to humans? And how were Orokins different
Well, my idea, most humans became Orkoins with brain and body implants in the near future, most likely the first human became Orokin sometime when humans first arrive on mars in the 2030's. Though not all humans ever lived in that high tech society, and some humans are still out there today.

Going with your other post saying you haven't done The War Within yet, you should really do thoses quests before asking question about the Orokins, since pretty much everything we know is in there.

Im sorry but you're 100% wrong, before making random guesses I suggest you to play through the game quests, also checking StallordD Youtube channel will help you alot with lore questions, specifically this one in my opinion: https://youtu.be/aAW1UxC_reo

Corpus are humans, i believe grineer use human colonies under thier control as slaves and from the Cephalon Fragments about citizens:

"While the major warring factions combat each other across the Solar System, non-militant organizations and civilian merchants populate the many regional Tenno Relays. Travelling merchant collectors that offer rare goods, mentors that offer training and knowledge, and convictional syndicates that preach their own rituals and doctrine. "

But what exactly were Orokins like? How did they differ from their human predecessors?

They were in every possible way perfect, symmetrical, elegant, beautiful, but still rotten inside, greedy and selfish.
They were "immortal" tough, through a proccess of changing bodies
They've achieved this through advanced DNA modification, and their "immortality" of the Oro/soul, controlled by the Void

Orokin are basically Humans+++. They are still (barely) humans, only a separate, ruling cast of far future humans with heavily modified bodies, large amount of bionic intrusions, both cosmetic and functional, and presumably they have immense power over Orokin-built machines aand structures. During Orokin Era their rule was absolute, and denying them would be punishable by death, or forced cybernitization (being turned into a cephalon or a servitor machine). They were also immortal, as explained in War Within quest. Presumably they also had some sort of power, but it's never explained what that power is and over what.

Not much else is known about them besides that. Currently there are three surviving Orokin in the system, two of which are "fake/real" ones.

P.S. Nothing really happened to humans, except time. Corpus are semi-normal far future humans with some basic implants, Grineer are genetically modified Orokin slaves, who broke free after fall of Orokin Empire, we are... also kinda human-like in nature (without spoiling Second Dream). Even Sentients, who are invaders from Tau system, are originally built by Orokin as terraforming drones, presumably controlled by some humans.

"Orokin" is a direct reference to the 1986 Eddie Murphy film, "The Golden Child". :2016popsicle:

Not entirely sure about that, my idea is that It's two words combined:
Oro, which is the "soul" that you have and as long as you have it you're alive, the Orokin had a large amount of Oro, which made the transference through bodies possible.
And Kin, for the representation of a higher or highest rank in a society, just like in Cetus, the highest standing among the Ostron is "Kin"
In addition Oro and Kin in different languages both mean gold.

AND HAVE YOU SEEN AN OROKIN TOWER JESUS LOOK AT ALL THIS GOLD I'M RICH I'M RICH

What do you mean we use Republic credits in the future?

To be fair the science behind this game is...... Iffy at best, basically the orokin were like the evil nobles at the start of some fantasy story that bite of more than they can chew and then proceed to, once more, bite of more than they can chew fixing the initial problem.

Tenno would be like the magic knights that also ended the evil nobles existences.

The dax were the nobles foot soldiers and were almost entirely wiped out alongside their masters. (My betting would be that the tenno were, at least initially, dax as were their families)

The corpus are the merchants and clerks of the empire

The grineer were it's slave workforce, cloned especially for the task

Other humans seems to be remote groups and servants of the orokin.

Basically they're all still human, more or less, but due to technology there's a profound difference between the people of different social classes.

I'm pretty sure the Orokin were humans that advanced technology with the void and that's how they got all their weird stuff.

Those aren't humans either, all the real humans commited suicide after the world became a boring grindfest for mediocre trash, then they had to pay to unlock the teenage and mid life crisis years
