You'll probably want to level up Strun eventually for mastery rank anyway, but if you like shotguns and want an actually good early game shotgun comparable to Soma Prime, you could get a Hek, which also works just fine in the late game
Yes, the Strun is good, but I wouldn't put down the Soma Prime for it. Still, you should get the Strun. It's a fun weapon and having a choice between the weapons you pick for your missions helps against the burnout you'll eventually face.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to the point where you have some platinum to spend, get yourself weapon and Warframe slots. Everything else is basically a waste of money and having more slots helps a lot. There are 35 (?) different Warframes and like 300 weapons in the game (And theres A LOT of variety with weapons) , so building an arsenal and advancing in mastery ranks should be your top priority.
But all in all, don't forget to have fun. Switch things up and don't worry about late game content yet.
(P.S.: Sorry, went a bit off-topic there. There were so many things in the back of my mind from playing this game for so long now, that I had to share it, because you're new to the game. Have fun!)
As for the Strun, it's a shotgun. It's the most basic of all shotguns, but at your point in the game it hits hard, it's fairly easy to use, and it's a decent introduction to the weapon class. I still use the Wraith version of it from time to time for giggles; it's fun.
Hek, as mentioned, is a brutal shotty, one of the highest damage-per-hit weapons in the game. Only four shots in the magazine, kicks like a mule, and reloads like a drunken snail, but you mod it right and it'll obliterate dudes in very short order. It's a suitable primary weapon to go through a lot of the Starmap with, but falls off a bit late-game. You'll probably want to upgrade either to its Syndicate variant, the Vaykor Hek, or to the Tigris series - Sancti Tigris and Tigris Prime, in particular.
As far as frames go, Rhino and Frost Prime are both really good ones, but eventually as you progress through the game you will want to get all of them so honestly I would recommend just getting whatever new ones are easiest to get at the point where you are and try them out
Every kill you make and objective you complete, as well as certain beneficial actions like completing a hack or destroying a trap will earn you Affinity, which lets you rank up your equipment if you collect enough of it. Your Warframe gains full Affinity for any kill made by its powers, and earns partial affinity for kills made by your weapons (split between your Warframe and the weapon you killed with). Affinity from objectives and non-combat sources is split evenly amongst all of the equipment you're currently using (that's an important distinction to keep in mind for later).
Right now, your Frost Prime only has one ability and his passive ability because he's still low in rank. Use him in missions to rank him up, and his roster of abilities will grow. I think you'll find he's quite strong at max rank, and useful for taking care of Defense and Excavation missions.
