Is the black colour really locked behind microtransactions?
srsly... I must be missing something. Is there a way to unlock the black colour without paying? I want to be an edgy ninja.

Edit:
I have no idea how trading or anything works becuase I picked this game up literaly forty minutes before posting this, that's why I asked.

You could learn how to trade and sell stuff to other players to earn platinum for yourself to buy color palettes that you want

The smoke color palette has been given for free on a few occasions (for 1 credit) but you do not need to use cash. Platinum can be traded between players for items so if you really want to make your warframe look as edgy as you, you can do all sorts of things to get plat.

You don't have to pay money to get Platinum to buy the full color palette.
Later in the game you'll get into trading, where you can sell certain items for Platinum to other players.

I apologize for this comment not being helpful, but why do you care about colours?

The closest I get to black is from shamrock color pallette if I'm not mistaken. I think I bought it for 1 credit if not getting it for free. Its from an event.

Buy a primed mod from baro, max it and sell it for over 100 plat

Sold a maxed primed point blank for 300 plat.

While you're right that black being in one of the 1 credit packs (which I can't personally remember EVER seeing outside of the holiday ones, but none of the... four of those? seem to have a black), the mastery rank requirement to trade is... 2. While you certainly won't have many trades a day early on, it's not like trading is wholly impossible. I also feel like.. cosmetics don't need to be such a big concern early on, but I guess I don't get to dictate how important it is to someone for their frame to be painted black.

...I think there was actually some promotion where the Smoke color palette was available as a twitch drop, but that was a unique period of time that I believe ended ages ago.

You don't have to pay actual money to acquire any of the palettes. That is why others are telling them to get into trading, so they can earn them by selling sets. It's a very useful and valuable skill to learn in this game.

Question: I start playing Warfame on January 1st. When exactly am I going to get a palette which contains black (if not buying with platinum) ? If waiting for a "give-away", just how many chances do I have till December 31 of the same year ?

Palettes are given away during holidays. The list being: Valentine's Day, Easter, and Halloween.

Trading is locked behind mastery rank 2, which is ridiculously easy to get to. How exactly is telling someone they should learn to trade "poisonous?" They're helping OP avoid spending money from their own wallet to get some color palettes. If anything, it's rather helpful. I'm very confused as to why you are so upset over this.

The color black is part of the default set of colors

It's not. Only in the unlocked full version for plat.

Unfortunately seems colors black and purple are available only if you buy the right color pallets.

There was one time they gave a way a defunct color palette for free which had black in it but it won't happen again.
I don't know why having black for free is still an issue at this time and age. People still refuse to realize that it is in 1 of the holiday color packs you get for 1 credit at the right time of the year: VALENTINE!

Before I receive a shower of rebukes for this comment, let me clarify the point of controversy about the black in that holiday pack: What plenty of people call a "REDDISH black" when they see my [very public] signature DEStalker fashionframe (in any frame I use), it's the tri-color combination of [genuine] black from VALENTINE pack, default color palette red, and also from valentine a dark "reddish brown" or "brownish red", whichever way you prefer to see it. People mistakenly point at the dark unidentifiable color that acompanies the red and black. The proof is in the pudding: the few who ever saw my secret signature Golden Heroes (aka Excal Umbra: black, "gold", dark gray... and even more black and gold) fashoinframe since long ago have never complainted about me using a "reddish brown" or "brownish red", even if they barely look at it with the same detail that they look at my signature DEStalker look.

About the tri-color for DEStalker: Those who care about look to the codex in game, and care to fill it up, can verify that the regular stalker shows clearly 3 colors, not 2: red, black, and brown. A lot of people around go with wrongfully used combination of black (from the smoke pack, which is the same as in VALENTINE) and whatever red they please. Not only they locate those black and red wrong, but also misuse the rest of whatever fashoinframe they use (when not using Hunhow's Gift, which isn't compulsory, is art FFS). They don't even look edgy, just childs with crayons drawing over the PC screen.

Why do I use a different and darker brown from the one at the codex then? Cuz art. I made it better than DE, and somehow a lighter brown looks dull on a player (like the neutral brown DE uses). Somehow, DE's coloring of both Stalkers look different in the battlefield (Shadow Stalker uses that brown afaik, is not visible in the codex but surely is still there. Hackers, that's your call for heroism. Investigate.) Also notice that on my fashionframe I respect the physical location of those colors on Excal, althought I still can revise how I use them in other frames for lack of static model and to make it optimal.
