If you didn't know, Excalibur's 'best' ability is actually his blind. It's one of his few ways of mobbing/surviving high level content.
But, if you are going against bosses that can't be blinded then u are pretty much screwed. Arcane grace + arcane guardian works well but does have it's limits. For now, the only frames you should be bringing to fight Vallis spiders are the major tanks like inaros and chroma (the best boss killer atm) and for ropa, any frame works as long as u know how to avoid the lasers
If you're still looking for survivability mods, here twp good choices that i recommend using
-Adaptation with its constant 90% specific dmg resistances work well in mobbing scenarios
(check videos on youtube to get a better understanding as it's weaker than u expect)
-Rolling guard with 2-3 seconds of invul is really really good and underrated imo i use it on a lot of
frames personally
btw the two mods mentioned don't need to be maxed out or anything, it honestly works decently with it ranked up to 4-6 ish
But Strength does effect your Exalted Blade so removing it cause it's Seperate weapon is incorrect, you can see that by hovering over you're abilities when in the Upgrade screen or go to Wiki.
Other than that you seem to know how to mod well enough already I would guess, and clearly if you're having issues with Profit-Taker and such then you need to use a different Warframe, as every Warframe has it's Pros & Cons.
So that's sadly just the way things are, so you cannot expect to do everything with 1 Warframe pretty much.
Also there are 2 Life Steal Mods, the second 1 you didn't mention being "Healing Return" which can be useful.
It's kind of a shame, since I rarely use him anymore outside of story missions these days since every other frame can do everything else better than him.
Well, I'm just going to hope Umbra ends up useful in The New War, because really, that's what he's supposed to exist for.
Thanks again for the helpful heads up. :)
(Even though i do have Chroma)
Could you list the mods that can be usefull with Umbra and give a try in those end game bosses?
Im about to fight Ropalolyst.
There's NO way you're a "newbie" and fighting ropalolyst already, lol. You have to have completed The Sacrifice to get in, and by then you've already passed the Uranus Difficulty Wall and are hopefully decent at modding.
I totally do not reccomend Umbra for this fight. Especially not alone.
If you wanna go alone, Take Wukong. He can tank enough to stay alive and heal while moving fast, and that mobility helps a TON in that fight.
One: You do not need 3 armour mods. It's a waste of precious mod slots. Stick with Umbral Vitality, Umbral Fibre, and Umbral Strength. Those are enough as is. Also, you might want to throw on a bit more strength to make your Exalted Blade stronger.
I also suggest picking up Chromatic Blade. This basically turns Exalted Blade into a status weapon and it can reach 100% status with the right build. It's also extremely powerful if you can manage to get your hands on Condition Overload.
Lastly, I suggest looking into Healing Return. It heals you every time you damage an enemy afflicted by a status effect, and that healing becomes more powerful for each status effect on them. This is obviously very good with a Chromatic Blade build. Now, it's not going to make you tank bosses, but you can easily wipe higher level content and still stay alive. Of course, Healing Return is just a preference, you can use Life Strike, but again, that won't really help you much on bosses either.
And as others said, you can try to get some arcanes, like Arcane Grace, but they're expensive if you want to pick them up from other players, otherwise you have to fight some Eidolons.
I just consider myself as one ^^'
Thanks for the tips too.
Right.
I hate the excuse of "oh, Excalibur is meant to blind" cause that isn't true. There are frames that do everything he can but x100 better. Excal Umbra is a special frame, but sure doesn't feel like it...
First of all, finishers only restore 20% of Inaros' health, not almost half. It's actually less than a quarter. Also, Inaros' blind (I assume you mean dessication) isn't really that great. Enemies have to be facing Inaros when he casts Dessication to actually be stunned by it and opened to finishers. Radial blind/Howl is actually a much better CC in that regard because it affects ALL enemies in its radius, regardless of whether or not they're facing Excal. Also, while it might be true that a lot frames can do what Excal does better, there's a few things to keep in mind:
He's a starter frame, so of course his kit isn't very complicated. He's also still very strong for what he can do, and if you feel otherwise you probably just haven't built him right. There might be better choices but it doesn't mean he's a bad choice by any means.
I meant that blind is just a really good ability on excal since he doesnt have any better cc abilites. If only radial javelin could do more than just help levelling up excal ):
And i don't find excal's blind being too expensive to cast. It's just 20 energy if you're using fleeting. 12.5 if u got 175% efficiency (I think). Usually i'm constantly topped off with energy from hunter adrenaline and random energy orbs
Excal's just a really rounded frame that everyone can do well with imo
