I started my own because I take long breaks and tend to be kicked every time. If you have a lot of mats then I would say yeah. I pretty much have everything researched already.

Yeah, my clan went inactive so I made a new one for the sake of getting some of those Clan-restricted goodies. You're better off building your own clan than spending plat on the weapons you can only get through Dojo blueprints.

When I joined a clan I straight up asked if it was ok if I was just joining for the research goodies. They said they were cool with that. So its months later now, never kicked... and I'm mostly the only one online.. sucks for groups but I have all the clan goods I need access to.

I made my own clan, invited a few of my friends into it because, hey, why not have a hand when researching and building? I've got about everything unlocked except for colors, and that just takes time. If I take a break, I've got quite a few 2IC's set up.

Keep in mind making your own clan is very expensive in material cost.
So unless you are swimming in mats - I don't recommend it.

This is how I approach it:

If you're looking for a community, better to join another.
If you're looking for blueprints, better to join another.
If you're looking for a specific blueprint, best to ask first then join another.
If you want a fancy af dojo in your preferred style, create a clan. :-)

If you've been playing for a long time and have a ton of random materials squirreled away, sure. I did it myself just so I wouldn't have to deal with all the ♥♥♥♥ that comes with clans full of people I often don't care much for, and now the only things I don't have fully researched are the Hema and most of the pigments (the former just because I haven't really bothered putting my nose to the grindstone TO farm the mats after having done plenty of it for my previous clan), and the Ignis Wraith since I didn't create my clan until well after that event ended.

As a new player, though, I wouldn't recommend it; the resource costs can be pretty hefty if you haven't already amassed them through months of regular play like us salty vets. It might make for a nice challenge to form your own clan from the beginning with a group of nine or fewer friends who are also starting the game around the same time as you, but outside of that I wouldn't recommend it for newer players.
